Top 5
1. Indianapolis - They have the rings, so they have the top spot, at least until they lose a game.
2. New England - Spying or not, in my opinion, this is one of the two most talented teams in the league. Losing Bill for an extended period of time would really hurt, though.
3. San Diego - And this is the other. They looked sloppy against the Bears, but still managed to pull out the win. Once the offense gets into mid-season form, they'll be scary.
4. Carolina - Beat up on a pretty good St. Louis team. Manhandled one of the leagues' premier running backs. For now, they're the most complete team in the NFC. That could change if Delhomme gets cold, though.
5. Cincinnatti - Put them here simply because I didn't like anyone else. They played a close one against the Ravens, but got bailed out by a faux PI call on Heap at the bottom of the ninth. Palmer will need to start hitting his recievers if they want to stay in the top 5.
Just missing the cut:
Pittsburgh - Beating up on Cleveland does not impress me. Play that well against the other two division rivals, and we'll talk.
Dallas - Both the offense and defense look explosive, but for very different reasons. The secondary needs to play better, or the defense will continue to be manhandled.
Bottom 5
32. Cleveland - I've never heard of a team trading it's starting QB after benching him in the opening game. They have some talent, but the organization is just a mess at the moment.
31. Kansas City - When Houston nearly shuts you out, you're in trouble. Players on both sides of the ball looked confused on the field. LJ and Gonzo are good players, but they have nothing else around them.
30. Atlanta - Every once in awhile, you see a team that just doesn't care about playing. Atlanta looked that way when they got whitewashed by Minnesota. I'm sure the Vick fiasco is hanging over their heads, but you have to at least try to earn that paycheck.
29. Oakland - So much for that vaunted defense. Kitna and the Lions' recieving corp made them look silly. A 5 win team at best this year.
28. Tampa Bay - Theres a saying, that if you have a lot of players at a position, then you probably have none. Look no further than the Buc's QB situation. I actually thought they might be 8-8 this year. Then I saw them play. Ouch. Garcia gives them a chance to compete, but only if he comes back strongly from that injury.
