Jones deserves all the credit in the world for the way he handled the Cowboys in the beginning. He hired a football guy in Jimmy and got the hell out of the way. I agree with practically everything you said except for the part about ego. If the word should be used to describe Jones, it should be “ego on steroids.” It’s a narcissist’s thing.

What does reciting what happened the past 33 years have to do with your earlier statement with the condition Jones would receive respect after selling the team? Because he won’t sell. That is all I said earlier.

I do think we have to consider the possibility that a different owner would not have hired Johnson, who was a college buddy of Jerry. There were a lot of dominoes that fell into place when Jerry bought the team that resulted in us winning three Super Bowls, which did help add to what Landry and Schramm had established. Some fans likely would have jumped ship without those three Super Bowls ... IF we had also experienced the drought we have since then.

As we've both said, Dallas was America's Team long before Jerry came along, but I don't know if it could have sustained its status if those first few years had been like the last 20-plus. Hard to keep being America's Team with just two Super Bowl titles IMO. Of course, the reverse of that is maybe we'd have even more than five with a different owner than Jerry.

There is no other person alive who could have somehow keep the Cowboys national media spotlight as bright as it is, especially with all of the playoff mediocrity. That does take a special gift! And no sarcasm here.

Not sure. Jimmy was a hot name at the time. But certainly, there's no guarantee that Jimmy would have ended up in Dallas.

I am sure it's been said already. The reason why we haven't won a SB is because of him. The reason why the Cowboys are still relevant is because Jerry is a master salesmen and we have a WHOLE BUNCH of fans that just continue to buy and buy and buy and buy despite us basically being the Lions. So no, Jerry gets no credit.
