Glenn on Johnson

Why in the WORLD do we put 5' 9" Glenn on 6'3" Johnson? Its like last years Detroit game when Glenn ended up trying to cover Williams. That is ALWAYS a losing play. When we have a situation where we are up against a really big WR, the D coaches need to make SURE that Glenn is NOT the one covering him. If Newman is out, put Henry on him. OK so that means going maybe man to man- SO WHAT? Show some FLEXIBILITY people- that is supposed to be the NEW COACHES trademark- do not force the players into the system, use the players as their strengths and weaknesses warrant.

Grab your whistle, pack your suitcase and go help the coaching staff out.

;)

Believe it or not, sometimes when the CB is shorter it is an advantage if he's smart. He is lower when the WR seeks to tuck the ball in and it is a more natural angle to punch it out. He was on Johnson because he was assigned to that side of the field. In case you have not noticed, and apparently you haven't, we do not flip flop sides of the field with our CBs.

Didn't Glenn successfully cover Plaxico Burress, who is 6'5, a few years ago?

Just saying.

I haven't had a chance to watch any of the game, but were any of Johnson's receptions over Glenn due to his height? Were the passes all high, jump balls or something?

well, Hos, since its the job of the OC to get MISMATCHES, and the job of the DC to PREVENT MISMATCHES, maybe they ought to think about that SOME.
And YES, I know, HOS, that we don't flip flop and GUESS WHAT= that results in some MISMATCHES.

By all means, when you get there with your whistle and suitcase will you please tell them we can only suit up CBs who are 6'1" or taller?

This is ridiculous Burm, and frankly you should know it.

No, Hos, YOU are the one that somehow thinks its just fine to end up with Glenn on the biggest WR the other team has. That SHOULD be what the secondary coach makes sure of DOES NOT HAPPEN.

SO Hos- tell me: you have no problem with Glenn trying to cover the biggest WR the other team has. Are there any other PEARLS of WISDOM your great coaching experience shows?

Most of them were quick slants and outs. He only had 39 yards receiving. Glenn was giving him a big cushion so everything was underneath.

but when the ball is on the 10 and Glenn is lining up at the goal line....lol. You have to question that strategy.

So, Glenn's lack of height really had nothing to do with Johnson's catches in this game? What's the argument about again? ;)

I dunno-maybe b/c it's PRESEASON and Wade/Stewart wanted to see "what works, what doesn't?

Dude-take a chill pill.

How? The only way that cannot happen is to have CBs who are 6'1" and taller. There is no other way to prevent it. You put a short CB on the field and I will find a way to get a tall WR on him even if you line him up an someone else. It's called crossovers and switching. I never said it was fine. I said it is impossible to prevent it. It cannot be done.

Yes, if you get to the QB fast enough it won't matter anyway. Thank you for asking.

Judas Priest.

There aren't too many CB's over 6'1" in the league. There are tons of WR's bigger than that.

Newman is 5'11"; why would we ever put him in against a receiver four inches higher?

Oh Avery, bringing rationale to a hysterical rant is unfair.

:laugh2:

Beat me to it and you phrased it better than I would have anyway.

Funny how people realize tall guys that are over 6'1" rarely ever make it at cb. Why because most of them can not turn their hips in mid stride also most tall guys tend to be what we call strides when they run basically running with big long steps that make them fast.

Where the little guys tend to be able to have that shake and bake type moves. We see this alot with rb that are big they tend to be more power runners

so what do you do when all the best cb in the league seem to be 6' or under (yes their are exception but not the rule)

There are a lot more wr 6'2" or taller than tall cb in this league

More rationale in a thread about hysteria. Stop it. In the name of all that is holy stop it.

:wink2:

Sometimes you gotta give credit where credit is due. Andre Johnson is a good player and probably would have got his if Henry or Newman had been on him.
