Going best player available gets you pro bowl players like Fred Beard,Tyron Smith, Demarco Murray, Jason Witten, Zack Martin, and the list goes on and on. Drafting for need gets you Greg Ellis instead of Randy Moss, and Shante Carver, Ebeneezer Ekuban, et. al.

I hope the Cowboys continue to select the best player available and stick to their board. It is better to take an all pro punter in the 6th round rather than a guy who will be off the team in a year just because they are trying to fill a hole.

I think that is why there are so many people concerned about forcing Bosa as the pick at #4. If he is the pick I hope it is because he really is viewed as the BPA rather than forcing the pick based on need.

There was NO WAY that the best player available was Fred Beard at that time.

We drafted for need with Fred Beard. Got lucky with that one which filled a huge need. I don't disagree with BPA.
Based on what's out there in terms of "experts" Bosa is top 4 player in this draft. It just depends if our board is stacked the same way.

At least they can say their QB's have had defenses.

Team A has a Franchise QB for a Decade

Team B has no Franchise QB, but a good defense

Any sane person is going to expect the team with the franchise QB to be better. If anything its more damning that this team never could put a team around Romo. It's a whole hell of a lot harder to get the QB than a good defense.

I agree man. All I'm saying is, I wouldn't straight up trade JJ for Tyron then or now. Tyron is the forgotten player because of his work ethic and the lack of a stat line for Olineman. He's everything you want in a football player and thank God we have him for 7 more years (I think.)
