He and Stink were asked the question about who is more important for the Cowboys to sign between DeMarco and Dez. Golic paused, said thats a tough one but the Cowboys are who they are because of the run game so he'd go with DeMarco. Stink said he'd go with Dez because Dez is the best receiver in the NFL and just a physical freak.

:yourock:Can't disagree with the man.

Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Dwayne Harris, Devin Street, well...maybe.

Nah. It definitely would be the worst in the league. Our #1 (in this case TWill) should be a #2. Beasley should not be the second best receiver. A pretty sad group.

I'll just point out that our greatest team success in quite some time came this year in a run oriented offense. Demarco moves the chains and keeps our mediocre defense off the field.

Dez had his dominant games this year come against the Titans, Jaguars, Giants and Eagles...only one of those teams is considered even remotely good. Murray had multiple and consecutive 100 yard games.

Its as if he had nothing to do with our success ...

Dez should not given a monster deal. Use that money to sign some players on defense and add depth to the receiver position. We don't need a superstar receiver, we need a complete team.

Me to, but I also like to hear Jerry saying he's done breaking the bank. That's a good change for him. Thank you JG and Stephen.;)

So you don't want him to break the bank for Dez then?

You've got to have a couple exceptions for this (usually QB or DE). I'd be okay for us to sign Dez, even if it is a bit expensive.

Dez is more important but fans need to give Murray some credit.

I can't believe how little credit DeMarco gets! I just responded to another poster re: comparisons between the Emmitt Smith era and today. People have short memories of what it's like not to have your star running back:

"With Smith unsigned, the Cowboys were forced to start the year with rookie Derrick Lassic as their starter and lost their first two games. After the second loss, volatile linebacker Charles Haley blew up in the locker room, screaming “we’re never gonna win with this f***ing rookie!” and throwing his helmet in the vicinity of Jones, demanding that he sign Emmitt."http://www.realclearsports.com/lists/memorable_nfl_holdouts/emmitt_smith_1993.html

I think many will say Emmitt was only good because of his OL, as you mentioned other backs behind the same line did not have the same impact of Emmitt. I hope Dallas gets a deal done, I fully understand there is a limit to what Dallas can do, as I have mentioned before 4 mill is not even in the ball park nor will you find other top backs at 4 mill a year. I do think the Cowboys will up their offer and hopefully it is something that Murray can agree upon. I would say the same for Dez, I would not want a contract the size of CJ or Larry Fitzgerald.

If it is just a matter of a great offensive line, I'll waddle through with the hole with the ball for a few yards. And Jerry won't have to pay me near DeMarco's salary.

I'm ok with paying Dez. But break the bank? Like you said he's not a QB. And even then it has to be a top notch QB, not a Chicago type.

I may be guilty of underestimating what it will take to replace DeMarco if he leaves, some running backs make it look easier than it really is and maybe that's what he's doing,,,

First, which one touches the ball more in a series? In a quarter? In a half? In a game?

Which one moves the chains more during a game?

Romo touches the ball the most of the skill players.

Murray second.

Witten third.

Now I am not suggesting Dez is not important. I think both Dez and Murray are equally important. But over-all contributions per snap, Murray has more of an impact, Dez has a larger impact at times.

I have been saying this for days. Even Irvin knew how important the running game was for him to have success. This is as close to that situation as we will ever get to the old days.
