Golic Says DeMarco More Important to Sign Than Dez

The answer is so obvious, IMO. This shouldn't even be discussed.

Dez all day.

This is how it works. Dez demands a double. He gets doubled with or without Murray. If we had Eric Dickerson, Dez still gets doubled.
If Dez was not here, no WR is doubled and the run game becomes easier to stack the line against and defend.

Obviously Dez over Murray.

The real debate is Dez vs. Tyron or Fred or Martin

Which would be easier to replace? DeMarco Murray. It would take this franchise year's to find another WR capable of scaring teams like Dez does.

Silly thing for Golic to say. I understand why he said it but he's wrong.

We must have a running game(no matter who it is) so we arent relying on the receivers as our number one option.

We nearly won a road playoff game w/ very little from our receivers. We're a running team. Dez and Romo had their best seasons because of it.

I will not say 1 is more important no more than I would have said Emmitt was more important than Irvin. I think Dallas has done a lot to get this new group of triplets in place and I think Jerry will do what he can to see they remain.

That's what I'm hoping for. Sounds like that's what JG is hoping for also.

I'm wondering if there is anybody in the media whose opinion I respect less than Golic's.

Well this is the first year in a long time we had a running game. We have been a pretty good passing team for years.
8-8 passing versus 12-4 running.

I hope both Dez and Murray are willing to work with the organization and I of course hope the organization is willing to work in good faith with both of them.

Me to, but I also like to hear Jerry saying he's done breaking the bank. That's a good change for him. Thank you JG and Stephen.;)

Consider the careers following the huge seasons of Shaun Alexander and Larry Johnson.

Both got paid big afterward, and both flamed out quickly from there.

Do not overpay Murray to stay, but keep him if you can for a reasonable number.

but between the 20s I'm pretty sure they'd be nearly as effective.

You had a typo: more effective

This myth that Dez's doubled on every play is comical.

He's biggest play of the post season he was 1 on 1 with a LB.

If Dez doubles are making the run game so effective, why did it take 5 years for it to happen?

You take away the elite WR and the offense is easier to stop.

You take away the power running game and the offense is easier to stop.

Losing either one would hurt big time.

The elite WR would be harder to replace but replacing a tough, hard yard getting RB isn't all that easy either.

Nope, we have been trying to do both for a long time with out success. That's why I hate this any body can run behind this line mantra.
It's a crock.

My working theory is that the Cowboys OL and running game was so good this year (and will be even better next year) that the idea that you need a super elite WR pulling double-coverage isn't required.

In fact, shouldn't it be the other way around? The power running game is setting up play-action shots down the field for WRs? Isn't that the way this usually works?

My guess is that everyone is right. Their relationship (WR and RB) is a symbiotic one. Each feeds off the other, each helps the other (if they're both good). That said, when it comes to these two players specifically, if I can only choose one I'd have to ride with Dez. Dez's are more rare in today's NFL than Demarco's are.
