But it occurs in the endzone, not in the field of play. There's a differenceSame as if its on the field, if the D doesn't recover they spot the ball where it was fumbled.

that is how things are usually changed. It's a silly rule that is a hold over from like the times were throwing an incomplete pass in the endzone was a touchback. Should been removed the same time they changed that ruleThe rule has been like that forever and now one play in the playoffs causes a possible change? LOL at the reactionary rule change off of one play.
Remember when CeeDee fumbled out of the end Zone?
And consider the other circumstance it happens- players "dancin' and prancin'" - showboating yards before actually crossing the goal line with the football securely in their grasp.Leave it as it is. If you're dumb enough to reach the ball out at the goal line you deserve the consequences when you fumble.
What are they going to do, pretend it didn't happen and give him the ball back?
Yeah that one I feel like they deserve the touchback. Forced ones they should be rewarded for sure.Unless they punched the ball out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not a silly rule. It's been a rule forever and the only thing silly is changing it because of one playthat is how things are usually changed. The rule was later updated to where the fumble (if recovered by a different offensive player ) returns to the spot of the fumble regardless of the amount of time on the clock.Hmmm. I did not realize that. Thank you for the edification.
Is it still that only the fumbling player can recover a ball fumbled forward in the last 2:00? I remember that being a change in the 70s or 80s after the Raiders did a forward fumble-rooskie.
They're not rewarded if it happens at midfield, why should they be rewarded if the other team has marched closer to scoring?Yeah that one I feel like they deserve the touchback. Forced ones they should be rewarded for sure.
People have been calling for a change for a long time, not because of one play. It's not a silly rule. It's been a rule forever and the only thing silly is changing it because of one play
Because if a guy is scoring and he reaches for the pylon and a defender knocks it out he should be rewarded. They're not rewarded if it happens at midfield, why should they be rewarded if the other team has marched closer to scoring?
Recover a fumble, then you're rewarded.
that was a rule? damnthat is how things are usually changed. It's a silly rule that is a hold over from like the times were throwing an incomplete pass in the endzone was a touchback. Should been removed the same time they changed that rule
Why?Because if a guy is scoring and he reaches for the pylon and a defender knocks it out he should be rewarded.
If you make a play in the redzone when it matters then you stopped sucking. You want to reward the offense for diving at the pylon and fumbling? How about don’t dive or reach for the pylon? Why?
If the defense fails all the way down to the goaline, they get rewarded more than if they don't let the offense march down the field against them?
You're rewarding the defense for sucking. Penalizing the offense for getting close to the end zone.
Makes no sense at all.
This has been coming for some time. It’s not just because of this play. It's not a silly rule. It's been a rule forever and the only thing silly is changing it because of one play
I never understood why this is by far the harshest penalty in all of sports. Not only is it a 25 yard penalty it's also a change of possession. If the ball goes out at the one inch line there is no penalty and you retain possession. If it goes one inch further the other team gets the ball even though they didn't recover it and also gets 25 yards tacked on. Often the defense didn't even cause the fumble. Waaaaay too severe a penalty.Yeah I don't support it. If you fumble out of the end zone it should be a touchback.
So, they're rewarded for sucking longer? If you make a play in the redzone when it matters then you stopped sucking. You want to reward the offense for diving at the pylon and fumbling? How about don’t dive or reach for the pylon?
