Good chance touchback rule for fumbling through the end zone will be changed this offseason

It’s too harsh of a consequence. Period. Instead, treat it like intentional grounding. but with a 15 yard penalty and loss of down. So, fumble at the goaline on 2nd and goal and ball goes through end zone and out of bounds with no recovery? Now it’s 3rd and goal from the 15. You don’t lose the ball but likely will have to settle for 3 points at best. Defense gets rewarded for it. Offense gets penalized for it. However, it’s more reasonable all around.

No reason to change it but the league wants to cater to offenses as much as possible so I'm not surprised. And also, most owners are idiots so I'm not surprised they would vote yes for this but vote no for having a Sky Judge official that would help clean up the officiating in games.

Don't support, offense has enough advantages as is.

It should be a touchback and a turnover. You can't fumble through the back of the end zone. Those are the consequences of reaching for the pylon and losing the football.

my take: Every fumble, which offense dont recover should go to defense.
Offense should protect the ball, and if failed in this task, then you should lose possession.

its definitely too harsh if it happens to us
Nope, I said it when it benefited us. This is a stupid rule. Should be like a fumble anywhere else on the field. If not clearly recovered, ball goes to the last team which had possession, wherever the fumble happened, or where the ball went out of bounds if that is behind the point of the fumble.

If you get tackled at the one inch line heading toward the end zone it's no points. If you travel an inch farther it's 6 points with a chance to kick for a 7th point.

If you get tackled at the one inch line heading away from the end zone it's no points and still your ball. If you get tackled an inch shorter it's 2 points for the other team and they get the football.

There's nothing wrong with that rule. Just whiny weak men these days.
What in the world does this have to do with "whiny weak men"? The defense didn't recover the ball. Why do they get it automatically and 25 yards? Again, some people are able to think and not think that being able unreasonable makes you a tough man. Bizarre? One could grab Mahomes face mask, break his neck and end his season and the penalty is 15 yards but... fumble the ball out the side of the endzone is literally the harshest penalty in sports. Often the D has nothing to do with the play either

The D should be rewarded for this fumble.

So what are they saying? Who gets the ball and where? Dumb rule change. Hold onto the ball and don’t fumble it before you score.

Mike McCarthy is working on false starts becoming a 1 yd penalty.

Another offensive advantage. This change would take away the Defense making a great play to help their team.

The difference is a recovery.

There is no rationale for the rule.

A ball fumbled forward out of bounds goes back to the spot of the fumble. No reason for that to change at the endzone.

Only time it would make sense is for when it goes out the back of the end zone and not the side.
the ball fumbled forward rule only exists inside 2 minutes of the half. If the ball is fumbled forward outside of that time its advanced to the spot where it goes out of bounds.
