We also had a flaw in our receiving game and we did not take a step to fix it. Instead, we are now waiting it out and hoping the players on the roster develop across from TO, in a season deemed Super Bowl or bust. I think that's the difference, but I more than hope I am wrong and everyone who thinks we are fine is right. I just understand the concern because I was not happy with Crayton at the 2 spot last year.

I just don't see a team being assembled in this day and age of the salary cap era without serious questions marks somewhere on the team.

So...I am not too upset about it. Wished it was different, but it is not.

If we were stacked at WR, I am sure we would have some other area to stress about.

It's really simple folks...would we like to have Roy or Anquain? You bet! But look at the Patriots. A good QB can make a mediocre receiving core look great. And I'm not talking about Welker and Moss last year. I'm talking about the receivers that they won SB's with. A great QB can make decent WR's become great.

The Patriots also won with there defense. Remember when they played the Rams and they were two touchdown favorites? The secondary smacked the greasted show on turf in the mouth! We finally have a secondary that can do that IMO.

The whole deal with this thing is if TO was to go down (knock on a big piece of freakin wood!) is the adaptibility of Jason Garrett and how he can change the offense to go with the strengths. That's when we will really know if JG is worth it. Until then we will have to go with what we have, and IMO with Romo under center I think we will always have a chance!

:hammer:

Last season, the most serious question mark for the Patriots was their linebacking corps, but they ended up in the Super Bowl. It would be even more ironic how the Giants, with even more question marks on its roster starting at quarterback, ended up beating them for the title, but that's life in today's NFL.

The Saints don't have any more offensive weapons than we do, actually less when you consider they have a worse offensive line, and they aren't concerned at all about their offense. We already had an All Pro TE. The Saints had to aquire Shockey just to give Payton the weapons that Garrett already had.

Again, why in the world are we paying an offensive coordinator $3 million a year when he needs proven All Pro players at every position? He doesn't sound all that great to me.
Point blank, it is easier for a team that was 7-9 to be optimistic and rubbing their palms about any kind of improvement in the upcoming season than a team that was 13-3 and wanting a Superbowl this season.

Once again, they went 7-9 because their defense sucked and was one of the worst in the NFL. They had the #3 passing offense in the NFL. Give Sean Payton the 2007 Cowboys defense and they would have went 12-4. Saints fans just don't worry about their offense because they know Sean Payton will get the job done with what he has, even if he doesn't have a great #2 WR. They worry about their defense. The Cowboy fans don't have that faith in Garrett. They think Garrett is so inept and overhyped that he needs proven All Pro players at every position, or else defenses will easily figure him out and his unit will implode.

I don't feel I'm freaking out. I haven't seen too many "freak out" yet. Most are just wondering who will step up.

The Anquan Boldin thing has folks excited...and rightfully so. Who wouldn't want to put him on our team.

I'm not overly concerned for this season....yet.

But I want a WR. Within the next couple of years we'll have to replace TO. It usually takes a few years for WRs to develop. We'll need to look to this position soon.

Exactly.

I wonder how Dallas ever won a Super Bowl with Kevin Williams as the #2 WR?

Kevin Williams CAREER stats:

Receptions 178

Yards 2314

TDs 7

Well, I'm not a blind faith kinda guy, but ok if you want to go there, has Garrett done it without all that talent?? Nope, he has always had it so we just don't know......but we do know how we looked without TO last year.

Payton has produced with the talent level that they have there now so an improvement in that talent gets them excited. I can see an improvement in the Saints, but to make any straight comparisons to us is a bit difficult to do.

Fine. You're being honest. Nothing wrong with skepticism towards Garrett. I just think it's funny that Garrett is so adored by Cowboy fans, and then they turn around and in a round about way say that we gotta get ANOTHER Pro Bowler because Garrett is evidently incapable of out-scheming his opponents, so we just got to outclass and overwhelm them with raw talent.

As a fan, you always would like to be able to point to something definitive that is a significant upgrade. I believe that Garrett did make due all season with Crayton as a number #2, as Crayton is nowhere near that talent level (Garrett deserves credit for that). What I was hoping is that we wouldn't have to do that again this year.

Really hard to compare the two fanbase trust levels, especially with us coming from vastly different outcomes last season.

I would love to have Boldin or Roy Williams like most of you but I won't jump off a cliff if it doesn't happen. We will be fine with Crayton, Hurd and Austin.

Yes, provided Owens stays healthy.

That is where I can see some insecurity because Glenn is gone. None of those players you mentioned could start and be effective for more than a game or two without a threat like Owens opposite them.

You can win with a subpar second receiver if your running game in on task.

That's where I would expect the biggest push from this team this year. We didn't draft two backs and get rid of our ineffective one in Julius Jones for nothing.

It is up to Garrett to stick with it and the OL to open up the lanes.

I have no problem with them letting Glenn go. I wasn't counting on him anyway. His knees are shot.

As long as T.O. is healthy we'll be fine. But if he goes down for an extended period of time, especially late in the season, our Super Bowl aspirations are over just like last year.

No one is saying Glenn should not be gone. i thought he was washed up. my problem is why did Jerry not address the WR's in the draft and free-agency? nobody wants to go into the season counting on the likes of P.Crayton,Miles Austin and Sam hurd.PERIOD!

This crew is just fine with me and did outstanding last year. They helped our O to be the leagues 2nd ranked unit and set tons of team records and went 13-3. Now they're a year older with even more experience in JG offense..

Miles Austin and Sam hurd is not the reason we were 13 and 3. we dont know what they are yet.

I saw a game early in the year last year where Hurd took an inside slant route to the house for the game winner. That's one, these young guys do have potential.

However, show me the team that does not have a question mark on their team.

Bottom line, is this is the team Dallas going to war with and nothing is going to change that outside some miracle trade for a Boldin or Williams.

I would not bank on that, but sure I would be happy if it happened.

And there you go. Tell'em how it is. :D

Almost all of us want a #2 WR upgrade.

Quality WR was not a option in the draft.

Jerry's been inquiring about trades for awhile now, obviously the price is costly or we would have made one but there is still the possibility that one could happen.

I think we did upgrade in our passing game. example: Split back set, Felix in motion and splits out wide. Now they have to account for his speed at the WR position.

Our real upgrade is in the form of DEFENSE. Add that to a 13 - 3 team and see what you got.

We already have a great #2 in Witten... and Crayton is a fantastic #3, and will only be better this year. It doesn't really matter if we get another receiver... it would be nice, but it's not necessary. Our defense is going to dominate enough this year that even if we only get 90% of the offense we had last season, we'll do as good as or be better anyway.

Do you not think this team was championship caliber last year? If you don't then you are one of the very few. Because everyone was singing our praises last year.
And this year apparently we are as well as every single prediction I've seen has us either winning the Super Bowl or at least making it there.

If you like to fret and worry over something that doesn't exist then go ahead and fret all you want. But from where I sit, it looks pretty good considering those other teams you mention are to to catch US, not the other way around.

Cajun, you're only feeding cowboysrock-the-deadskins-troll. There's no getting your point across to this guy, because he has an agenda. Go look at every one of his threads/posts. He's just trying to stir up the faithful masses, and that's all he hqas ever done.

I get sooo tired of hearing this from media and fans. With T.O., Witten, Crayton, Barber and now Felix catching the football, how many more balls can you spread around? T.O. may go down, but Dallas will have to deal with it just like all those other teams do.
