I don't think it's any news for Goodell.

The process is set up for him to hear any appeal, so whether he's in the room for the initial meeting is virtually irrelevant.

Did you read the article? This has nothing to do with the appeal. It has everything to do with Goddell's judgement on how he determined Zeke to be a "women beater" without looking at the evidence.

Its silly to make judgement on someone's livelihood without looking into the facts. This is exactly what happened with Goddell and if you think that this is something the league can brush off easily you are gravely mistaken.

With great power comes great responsibility. Goddell failed in all respects to it if what the article states is correct. Not wishful thinking at all.

Except in this case the appeal goes through Judge Judy, too.

They have botched nearly every investigation they have conducted. They need to stay out of that business and let the severity of punishment depend on what society doles out. This idea that they evaluate based on a preponderance of the evidence versus reasonable doubt is idiotic when the evidence collection is poor and or tainted.
It wasn't even as if Elliott's case went to a jury and they didn't convict, the DA dropped it entirely because the evidence was extremely unreliable. In fact, the evidence pointed more towards Zeke's innocence. Yet, the NFL somehow determined the same evidence was credible enough for a "conviction."

I hope all this brings Goodell down.

It probably will. He's bad for business, not in the way of actually harming the NFL's profits (they're fine) but damaging the NFL front office's reputation come CBA negotiation time.

The NFLPA has been handing Goodell L after L in these things, and only gaining more leverage, including CTE talks, cannabis research, etc.

The owners need to get him out before negotiating a new CBA if they want to get a sweetheart deal like they did in 2010. Power is shifting to the players like in the NBA.

It seems he intentionally kept himself out of the decision so he can cut the suspension to 3 games. Rather than be involved and basically disagree with his own decision.

Are we ever gonna hear from Jerry or Stephen on this? I assume the appeal has to be done today

At this point, I wonder if the suspension was reduced to two or even three games if Zeke would just take it to stop all the aggravation or if he's bound and determined to take it to court. If I was innocent, I'd take it all the way.

Conflicting reports have emerged in recent weeks regarding the direct participation of Commissioner Roger Goodell in the events preceding the suspension of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

The NFL, after previously not commenting on the matter, has acknowledged that Goodell was not present for the June 26, 2017 hearing that preceded the issuance of discipline. ********.com reported in late July that Goodell didn’t attend any of the hearings involving Elliott.

the August 11 letter informing Elliott of his suspension explains. “The advisors had an opportunity to engage directly in discussions with you, and to hear your counsel’s assessment of the legal, evidentiary and credibility issues presented in this case.”

Per a source with knowledge of the investigation, Goodell also did not meet with Tiffany Thompson, whose credibility also is at issue.

Here’s the truth: It can’t. While the four independent advisors may individually and collectively be capable of assessing witness credibility, they weren’t the ones making the decision. The person who made the decision needed to be in the room, studying every word, facial expression, and gesture. Without that, the grade on the Commissioner’s decision as to Elliott is incomplete, at best.
Goodell's ready to go away. He's just mailing it in now.

I'm sure Goodell will personally not hear Elliott's appeal, either, before upholding the suspension.

This idea that they evaluate based on a preponderance of the evidence versus reasonable doubt is idiotic when the evidence collection is poor and or tainted.

Like them messing with the rules to create ever more ambiguous opportunities to create more gray areas that can and will effect games based on one official's sole judgment (Dez catch vs non-catch), this whole business of punishment seems to also be more for the controlling of players and the teams they are associated with than any moral high ground.

Through my admittedly tin foil hat perspective, sure seems like the NFL is using every means possible to effect desired outcomes by an inside click of owners/commissioner. Corruption stinks and the NFL isn't exactly smelling very flowery lately.
