Since we're on the subject, another annoying thing is the kneel down. I believe it's called the victory formation or whatever. If it's mathematically impossible to stop the clock, they should just end the game. For example, yesterday's NFC game. San Fran had 2 timeouts. There was I believe 40 seconds on the clock. Seahawks kneeled, San Fran called time, 37 seconds left---Seahawks kneel, San Fran calls last timeout, 34 seconds left--3rd down, Seahawks kneel, time expires.
Have the person that scored the TD kick the PAT.
Terrible idea. He wants excitement but his new rules have all but taken the Kickoff Return out the game, which is one of the more exciting plays in the game. It's like Congress, if they aren't creating new rules every year they feel like they aren't doing anything and that leads to dumb new rules.
Technically, the kneeling-down team might fumble the snap.
I don't think that part needs to change.
My thing about the extra point is even if it was not as easy as it is now, what exactly is the point of it? Field goals really are barely football plays as it is. It always bothered me that for 59 minutes football is a battle of brutal physicality, speed, grace and toughness... almost literally a virtual war of field position played by men who pay a terrible physical price... and then, a guy with a clean jersey comes out and decides the game in a play that has nothing to do with any of that.
Without kickers how do you have the strategy of field position?
Love that idea. At least we're keeping special teams in the arena. Make it where the place kicker has to kick from the 30 yard line. That would make it a 47 yard FG which isn't necessarily automatic these days. Good post percy!
Kickers do factor in. If it's 4th and 6 from the 30, that's where you weigh 3 pts vs giving the ball at the 30 or 37.
