Elliott is young and durable. He's averaging 22.8 carries per game thus far. When Emmitt Smith won his first rushing title in 1991, he averaged 22.8 carries per game. If you have a horse, you ride him. Smith was a horse. So is Elliott.

Who cares about his workload? I think we should draft a RB high every 5 years, ride them until their rookie contract is up, then let them walk. Rinse and repeat. EZE is not so special that we will have to pay him a truckload of money to stay. I'm glad we have him, but RBs are interchangeable. Emmitt was a generational type player, and I am not sure his breed of RBs exist anymore.

We must be watching different players if you do not think Elliott is a special player. #21 on offense the one who plays to a different tempo than the rest of the team. If and when he gets sidelined you will understand his importance. I never realized the current optics do not allow you to see his talent.

Well, I see we have a new league leader in carries this week. David Johnson has 146 to Zeke's 137......both in 6 games. Zeke is now 4th in carries behind him, LeGarrette Blount (143), and DeMarco Murray (139).

Elliott is a bruiser. He has the build to make plenty of runs. The F.O want all the publicity this boy can generate. He makes this offense work. Still. I would like to see Morris and the other draftee get a few more carries. But, still happy enough with Elliotts workload.

Exactly. I keep trying to drive this home. Avoid the big contract, get a compensatory pick and you have that RB in its best years.

In terms of a contract renew:

It depends on how fit they are at contract renew time. How many injuries have they had, are they slowing down, has scar tissue built up from all the wear and tear making muscles less flexible and more likely to tear. E. Smith eventually slowed down much to the lament of B. Switzer who commented on it after watching replays of their losing season.

Lets see how Zeke is at the time.

As for as workload:

It would be nice to get Morris and other RB's more in the groove also so we have multiple threats. But if we telegraph a run play with Elliot and fake a hand off, Dak can do some good stuff with his legs also.

He just turned 21 a couple of months ago. He'll recover from his workload quick.

We being a playoff caliber team is the only reason I would try to get Morris another series or 2.

Yep. If the Club gets 2 SB's out of his first contract it all was worth it including drafting him so high. A first contract is about all that can be logically hoped for in the new NFL. Make the most of it.

Not concerned about workload. Way too soon to think about a second contract
I think he could be a special back but you won't know for a few years. The signs are there but stuff happens so you just never know what life and football will deal you. Bo looked special too

Amen my friend! I was wondering when did the narrative change in the NFL I must have missed the memo. Emmitt Smith played for 13 years with the boys and had 11 consecutive years of 1000 + yards, shoot from 1991 - 1995 he had 2 years above 1700 yards and didn't rush for less then 1400 yards. I just thank the lord some of the posters here were not making decisions or Emmitt would have been gone after his rookie contract. Even if EE breaks dickerson's rookie record or goes for 2k, its about the player not the workload. So why would we assume if he does that he is finished ?

There is no magic number of carries that raises a red flag and says ok he is overworked time to get rid of him Murray still doing it minus that year where philly used him wrong.

Bottom Line is EE is a special player who we should get ready to enjoy and appreciate for the next 10 years, barring any major injuries or unforeseen tragic event. Everything is setting up for us to be a force for years to come, and now people are already talking about dumping a big part of it after the rookie contract expires SMH

Bo was a special athlete. Not in the same RB category as an Elliott.

The thing that seperates Zeke from these freak athlete RB's like Gurley is he has natural instincts for the position.

Sometimes it's good to have a guy like Gurley but Zeke is like Emmitt in the way that he was just born to be a runningback. You won't find a weakness in his game just like Emmitt.

Run Zeke run!

I was kinda worried they were gonna split his carries with Morris before the season began (was confounded that there was a decent amount of posters that wanted his carries held back to "preserve" him), and then grew concerned, again (that his carries may be reduced), after his somewhat rough two starts. But the coaches stayed on course with our phenom and they need to continue to let the kid eat. And that's excatly what they're doing. Awesome.

20-25 carries a game, keep it going. We need to start implementing him more in the passing game -- as @FuzzyLumpkins has eloquently said, he needs more practice there. Hope they're doing lots of passing drills in practice with our phenom. Still a few screens or flat routes wouldn't hurt, not talking lining him up in the slot or seem routes from lining up in the backfield etc... just get him more involved in that facet (small routes), he seems to glide after receiving the few balls he has.

(Gosh, I'm still eating so much crow on this pick, lol) and LOL @Risen Star
