thinking the same thing, but I would go for Duke Robinson at that point
then S in the third

I wouldnt.

We dont need a guy that can only play guard and IMO, really isnt an elite prospect at that position anyway. He's a good player, not a great one.

Maybe just a tad to high but wouldn't TJ lang fit well here?, he very Versatile.

As long as Jerry doesn't fall in love with anyone in particular, we'll be fine. No need to trade up when all the players after pick #20 are more or less interchangeable.

Jerry fell in love with Demarcus Ware and Felix Jones. We seemed to do OK with those picks.

Yeth, Jerry altho fell in love with Quinthy. But more recent history indicates that he (and his team) seem to be quite astute in going after solid talent, and not selling out to get it (see D McFadden, C Johnson, whom Jones also coveted).

I'm not as worried about Jerry as I used to be. If the last 2 drafts are any indication, he navigathed through the picks pretty reasonably (I do admit though, that I just about threw my dog through the TV screen when we passed on Mendenhall).

But we stayed put and made the selections. I'm talking about him trading draft picks unnecessarily. There's absolutely no one in the second round that we have to have.

I was so upset that we passed on him and "reached" for Felix. A buddy was over at the house and had great fun at me moping around about it. Moreso because, as a Dolphins fan, he had been in the same spot the year before on the Quinn/Ginn deal and I took great delight in watching him work through his depression, especially with us capitalizing on it and getting the player I wanted all along in Spencer.

Funny what hindsight will do for you. Mendenhall gets mugged before the season ever starts and Felix was incredible for us.

Gotta give you credit for being honest.

It may turn out that in both cases you missed the boat. Felix may end up better for us than Mendenhall and right now Spencer is not much at all to crow about while we passed on LaMarr Woodley. :bang2:

Like all of us, we're really just guessing, so don't fret.

I still wouldn't panic and move up. I think someone good is going to fall. I keep thinking that Derrick Williams is going to be there. There's your PR, speed WR, and wildcat all at once.

Me too, bro. I jut couldn't believe we passed on him. I was pissed all weekend last year. Then we picked Choice in the 4th and i thought my head was going to explode! I was already pissed about Bennett and Felix. That's why I don't have a scouting job. Every pick I hated last year ended up good. I did like the Scandrick pick on day #2 though.

It sometimes isn't even about the player it is about the position. I fear we "have to have" a safety, so we trade up for the glamourous one like Delmas, versus staying put at getting say McBath. Plus, the eleven choices will be burning a hole in Jones' pocket by the time the end of the first round approaches.

Our draft class looked better because everyone saw the field more or less.

Had Barber stayed healthy, I am sure some would be moaning that Choice was a wasted selection. Had Newman been healthy all season, Scandrick would not have played nearly as much.

I would prefer that we kill positions by sheer numbers in this draft, just as we did with RB and CB last year. Right now, we are stocked there and ready to go. We need to do that with both lines, especially offensively.

You guys who were mad about Felix must not ever watch the SEC. ;)

no doubt.

I loved Felix. He was as dangerous as McFadden at Arkansas exception being the tackle-breaking.

And I m not worried about Jerry right now. Jerry is like a fan and can be talked into whomever he trusts loves. Right now he seems to trust Tom C.

If we see Lacewell whispering in his ear I am calling Homeland Security and telling them Lacewell is an Al Qaeda spy and the Cowboys 90's drafts are proof of his intent to destroy America and it's team.

I disagree just slightly here.

Choice and Scandrick looked good because they can play. They were excellent values before they ever hit the field. Because we drafted well when they were asked to play they could.

I am fine drafting guys that fit our scheme over ones that don't but other than that it has to fall back to value.

Trade down a bit and grab Victor "Macho" Harris

He doesn't fit what the Cowboys do on defense.

He's a good player, but he's for a Cover Two.

If we have the cap room to sign 11 picks, then why not draft 11 guys? No, they all won't make the team, but a larger pool of players will increase the likelihood of "hits." And guys like Jay Ratliff and Chris Horton prove that even seventh rounders are potentially valuable. Sometimes Jerry is too clever by half, although he's shown a sensible streak of late. Let's hope that holds up.

It is not about whether they can play. Most people would have been upset and stayed that way if they never proved what they could do.

You used the word value. That's it right there. It doesn't matter what position they play or who else is ahead of them on the chart. If there is value to the selection, there are few positions on this team that couldn't use more "players".

Because if 2010 is an uncapped year the signing bonuses of draftees who don't make the team all hit this year's cap.

I was thinking about him today.

Unfortunately, he pops into my mind every year in late April.

Didn't he call the war room last year (or the year before) as some sort of prank?

It wouldn't surprise me if his old pickup truck is headed from Arkansas to Valley Ranch as we speak.
