Randy Gregory just tweeted he's having a kid and hashtagged "newbeginnings"

Maybe becoming a parent will push him to change his act.

Grasping for straws....I know, but still.

When I saw this I thought maybe he can change

So the responsible thing to do is treat your mental illness with weed???

It isn't responsible. But expecting a mentally ill person to "be responsible" is pretty stupid.

Imagine throughout your life this has given you relief. You expect a guy under the pressure of his first year in the NFL - and clearly with a team that failed to get him the support he needed - to not turn to weed for relief?

Have some compassion for people with legitimate diseases that drive behaviors that you classify as irresponsible.

If he thinks the stress of football is enough to drive him to drug use, wait until he has to be a parent, waking up every hour, having poop come at you from every conceivable angle, and having no clue how to stop the crying

That describes being married. Just wait till the child is born then it truly gets rough

Again with the "act" schtick.

Dude is sick.

Folks on this board are igorant.

So now the Dude is sick, oh really, I'm told time and time again that it's a harmless activity.......but now he's sick, you can't have it both ways!!

He talked a good game after he fell in the draft but he's a chronic and probably out of football in three years, just like I said about Manziel

Randy has explained with his own words what his issue is and certainly his family has known about his irresponsible activity.

Randy has been using only since 2011 according to his own words, not his whole life.

Randy is no victim of disease, Randy is a victim of immaturity and irresponsibility according to his parents and by his own words.

"That's something I've definitely been working on and something I can definitely fix," Gregory told ESPN Radio last Friday (via The Dallas Morning News). "I'm 22 years old but I think I carry myself real well and I think I need to carry myself a little bit better as far as decision-making goes.

"I think a lot of people are getting tied up in the weed and think it's just a weed problem. I don't think it's a weed problem. I think it's decision making. I think I'm immature. I'm definitely working on that. I want to prove everyone wrong and I want to do it with this team. I think this is the best team I can do that with."

"We should be able to take it upon ourselves and to have enough character to not do it. At the time, I did not. I really didn't."

"At the end of the day, it was my fault. I was being selfish. I was being stubborn. I felt like I could do things my way and it would work. And it didn't work."

Sure, there are people who have a legitimate mental illness but Randy nor his family have ever verified this to be a fact.

Rather, they have publically stated he has been immature and irresponsible with his pot smoking.

His parents are intelligent and involved in his life, if he had a legitimate mental illness then they would get him the help he needs professionally.

You can have compassion for people with legitimate mental illness without advocating or justifying drug abuse for relief.

Further, to equate recreational use with self-medicating is absurd, some of these guys just like geeking on pot, not every case is a clinical mental illness!

Yes because the pressure of parenthood is great for weak people with addiction problems.

I'm sick of people on this board treating mental illness like it is some character flaw. Get educated.

Please ...... enough with this not his fault crap that people who smoke pot want you to believe.

Marijuana is not a mental illness. It's a choice he made to do even knowing the conequenses of doing so.
Stop justifying his actions as a mental illness.

Exactly.

Equating rec use with self medication is absurd? Gregory has social anxiety disorder. That's an incredibly common link.

Dude grows up with little access to mental health care. Finds that weed helps. This story is as old as the freaking bible

Manuel is an addict. That's an illness. So, yeah, he's sick.

Rolando McClain is sick also ........ correct?

So everyone who does drugs or alcohol is sick and they should all be allowed to continue to work in the NFL ........ correct?
