The Commanders gave Archuleta a $5 million signing bonus, and have a $5 million option bonus on his contract due in March, according to sources with knowledge of the deal. However, should the team not exercise that option in March, Archuleta's base salaries over the next three seasons would escalate and become guaranteed, with that total equaling $5 million as well. If they cut him after the season, besides owing the guaranteed money, the Commanders would take a $9 million salary cap hit in total, a sum that could be spread over two seasons -- with about $7 million due in 2008 -- depending on the timing of his release.

They might as well release the rest of this year's free-agent crop, as well.

Other than Randle El being a successful punt returner and gadget guy, talk about busts galore.

and it does not suprise a single person in Cowboys Nation.

I mean this board was swarmed this summer with threads stating that Adam Archelleta was not a great player and they overpayed on him and Brandon Lloyd? Give me a freaking break the 49r 0fers didn't want him.

When a bad team lets go of a receiver they feel cannot help them how does logic dictate that he is going to be a superstar on another team?

ARE throws one trick play TD pass in the Superbowl and now he is the next Jerry Rice? The skins were better off starting ARE as a QB.

I laugh at the sweet justice being brought to the Commanders with poor free agent investing.

Exactly...there were many on this board predicting they were throwing money to the wind (as usual) trying to by a Super Bowl.......Congrats Danny boy you've done it again.

I remember quite clearly the Foreskins trolls showing up pontificating on how Roy and Archa-can't-play-for-sheta were pretty much the same player.

From the way I've understood it, the Skins are screwed with Archuleta regardless (unless he suddenly gets a lot better).

He's something like a $1.5-$2.0 million cap hit for 2007 and then an $8 million or so cap hit in 2008 regardless if they cut him after this season or keep him.

And yes, I heard *plenty* of Skins fans say he was a better safety than "overrated" Roy Williams. :lmao:

I find this hard to believe. It always starts at the top.

I love it.... Danny Boy strikes again, and what do they have to show for it? NOTHING but Salary cap problems and no draft pics.

Wow, a Skins fan calling Gibbs dumb. Anyhow, blame always goes to the top. That would be Danny boy. He is the one that said "This will never happen again" talking about signing players to huge contacts. He said that after last year, then signed all the junk contacts this year. He is like Bart Simpson and the electrified twinkie. He will never learn.

I'm impressed your sticking with that, even though it damns Gibbs. Good job.

I don't know that I totally believe this Riggo. Napoleon Snyder has been doing this since he bought the team. The strategy pre-dates Joe Gibbs return. From where I sit it looks to me like Gibbs has been forced along for the ride. This is on Napoleon and Bug Eyes Cerrato just like our downfall was on The Face Lift. I'm not exonerating Gibbs from any blame, but I think Napoleon's fingerprints are all over this as well. If this is all Gibbs then he still gets some blame for bringing the guy back.

Marcus Washington and Randy Thomas, however, were two of the best FA signings in recent years. Plus they were able to bring in Clinton Portis and Santana Moss in trades.

They do get some stuff right.

Every year.

We constantly tell the Skins fans it won't work and they constantly ignore what we say.

It's the Peter Principle in living color being lived out right before our eyes.
