how many times have the patriots or any other top organization taken a guy that everyone felt was a reach? pretty much every single person will say this was a massive reach. the good teams don't do this stuff. and that's why, once again, we will win 9 games at very best.

Great trade, great pick, great homer post.

Dude, no homer posting here. The guy was the best pass anchor on the board excels in short yardage and is a mauling run blocker. All lineman moved up because of what happened in the top 15. We took the right guy. Shwenke would have been a reach, but not frederick, IMO we totally hit on the pick.

He will anchor the middle and set a pocket for Romo, hes even better at guard plus the guy can't be bull rushed, thats what we wanted, sorry mayock and kiper!

Guys, settle down. Yes, folks predicted Frederick was a 2nd round guy. But that was before 9 OLinemen went off the board in the 1st round. Pugh was also supposed to be a 2nd round guy. Long, 2nd round guy.

Frederick wasn't going to make it to the Cowboys mid-2nd given that OL run. We're not the only team that needs interior OL. They'd likely have to trade up to the top of the 2nd to get him if they didn't pull the trigger at #31.

The Cowboys made a bad trade, then were faced with the likelihood of being unable to address OL properly and made a slight reach on a guy who probably would have gone early 2nd. It is what it is.

Patriots reached for Logan Mankins in 2005 when most people thought he was a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I'd say Mankins has worked out pretty well for them. Frederick is in the same spot... projected to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick and the Cowboys picked him in the 1st round with most seeing as it as a major reach.

I'd say let the kid play before jumping to conclusions.

did they make a bad trade down in doing so?
also their decision makers have a little bit of a better track record than ours.

Well there is many reasons for concern. We haven't exactly nailed many drafts the last decade and in fact have been pretty bad. Thus we are .500 a lot. So why just TRUST their board..or even trust that the info about their board is correct. I also heard from the radio and other posters today that he was rated a 2nd rounder with 20 other guys.

Sorry the FACTS do not back you up. Sure, we really screwed up some drafts, and 2009 was a complete mess. But tell me how we have failed to hit on:
Morris Claiborne, Tyson Smith, Bruce Carter, DeMarco Murry, Dez Bryant, Sean Lee. No doubt about it, we really screwed up some drafts 8-15 years ago. But I would put our drafting the past 3 years up with anyone in the league. And if you take out the 2009 draft which we went in with the wrong strategy from the beginning you have to go back to 2004 before we completely screwed up a draft...

I'm talking about the player comparisons. Their eerily similar in which both Mankins and Frederick were both projected as 2nd or 3rd round draft picks and considered major reaches. Mankins has turned into one of the best interior offensive linemen in the league and no one is bashing that pick. I'm not saying Frederick will turn out to be an All-Pro or something, but let the kid play first before bashing the pick.

Not to burst your bubble but where have Lee, DeMarco and Carter made a difference so far. Talented guys WHEN they play but we haven't gotten much out of them. Claiborne can't even be judged yet. I give you Smith and Bryant. So 2 guys means we are gurus all of a sudden? FACTS do back me up. Picking guys with injury histories is part of the draft process. You keep pulling out the 22nd ranked player thing with nothing to back it. Broaddus and many others around the ranch said he was a 2nd rounder, along with many. That doesn't equal 22.

The trade was spot on, the points are exact for this type of draft, you must adjust your point chart. We loved Fredrick, he would have been gone at 47 with the run on o-lineman. Callahan has spent time with him, he plays both guard and center, he's smart with one hell of an anchor.

We took the bpa based on OUR needs and the way the draft was going. We are a better football team with Travis Fredrick.

Don't listen to the haters.

You are absolutely right. People dont know. This guy will be our starting center...Game 1

31st pick is pretty damn close to 2nd rounder. if they didnt think he would last till the 47th then i see no problem with picking him 31st.

It's the 31st pick - basically a 2nd rounder. Why aren't the Giants and Bears taking heat for the massive reaches they made much higher in the 1st round????

So right now our OL is....

Smith Livings Frederick Bernadeau Free/Parnell

Still pretty craptacular but better than 24 hours ago.

wow, you know how to make things look bleak!!! yeah, we need 2 guards and a tackle really. I do not like either bernedea or livings and Free is finished IMO.

We need more olinemen in this draft or have plans in free agency in place. but if all we could do is replace is one more guy, it would be bernadeau (sp?) he was awful last year.

Can Costa play guard?
