Do you think Greg Elliss is expendable for a trade. I really haven't noticed him being particularly great at OLB, and he is keeping Bobby Carpenter off of the field. And with Burnett playing real well yesterday, and the depth of Singleton who also had a couple of good plays, I think we are good at OLB. Burnett apparently can rush the passer as he had 2 sacks, and Carp should be ok at rushing. I think we would be better off with those two, providing more athleticism and speed.

So could we trade ellis?

thoughts?

He's an incredible bright spot this year so far, despite my haranguing of him this entire off season for his whining. I was wrong. He's playing great.

The man made 5 solo tackles last night and made several more outstanding plays containing VY. He was one of the best players on the field. No way.

You don't trade a guy who has 2.5 sacks in 3 games.

Greg Ellis = 8 year veteren who can play OLB an DE very well

Burnett = Second year player who has never started and can't rush for the 3 point stance

Carp = Rookie who has never played more than 10 snaps in a game

Singleton = An average backup

I think we would. He is the team captain, the NFLPA rep, and like a big brother to many of these younger LB's. I have no doubt, that Ware's success is due in no small part to Greg Ellis. You don’t trade away the anchor of your defensive unit. The guy is a class act, and brings a ton of intangibles to the entire squad.

If Ellis is indeed keeping Carpenter off the field, which seems unlikely since they aren't playing the same position, then it's because Ellis is better.

Why would one trade the better player in order to play the more inferior player?

In addition, no one is keeping Carpenter off the field but Carpenter himself...if he were the top backup at any of the LB positions, he'd at least be dressed for the games.

Right now he's no better than 3rd string, imo.

Are you still honked off that Jacksonville beat the Cowboys? It wasn't Ellis' fault.
