If this comes down to restructuring some folks, do the restructures have to precede Hardy's signing? I'm just wondering if this may be holding up progress.

I found this comment by a Panthers fan especially interesting

I remember after the big season Hardy had in 2013, there were a number of people questioning his consistency, saying that many of those sacks happened in a few games instead of a span of the season. Which was a valid question, and I wondered myself at the time.

However, when you fast forward to the 2014 season, specifically when we were getting blown out 6 times in a 10 game stretch, you can't help but ask yourself how much of a role his absence played in that. I can't downplay the loss this will be for our D.

When I look at his 2013 stats he did seem to get sacks more so in spurts as opposed to a consistent basis.

every pass rusher ever has years of sacks coming in spurts or "more consistently." good pass rushers get sacks. when they aren't getting the numbers, they're still making a huge impact.

When I look at the top sack leaders in that season they all did it more consistently than Hardy. Just an honest observation from a Panthers fan that I looked up and found to be true. Nothing more to discuss.

They could agree to deal and wait to submit it to the League. But once it is sent the team has to be under the cap. Those restructures would have to be done first. Right now we are down to 5m in cap space and the Hardy deal will probably take up more than that.
