Greg Hardy unlikely to face any ban

In light of Adrian Peterson's ruling that NFL's domestic violence policy cannot be applied retroactively, Hardy will not be facing a ban this upcoming season. He will likely get immediately reinstated. If Jerry can deal with bad PR, and contract has a strong morality clause so Cowboys can get out of deal if he re-offends, I'd be in favor of signing him to play LDE.

He's probably the only player Ive ever not wanted to play on the cowboys for character reasons. What he did (and was found guilty of doing) was really messed up.

I actually have never bothered to find out what he did.
Care to give me brief rundown?

I think Hardy would be a significant upgrade and boon for this defense. If there is a FA DE that I think could make a sizeable impact, it is this one.

I say all this without taking the alleged concerns into consideration.

Completely understand and he might not be on the Cowboys' free agent board because of it. But if he has paid a penance by sitting out all last year, and there is evidence that this was an isolated (albeit) brutal incident, I'd be willing to take a chance that he is reformed. So long as we can get out of the contract.

Beat up his GF, in the process throwing her against a bathtub and then onto a bed of assault rifles, choking her and telling her he was going to kill her, all within the context of a relationship where he controlled her every move because he was paying for her rent.

No one really knows. There are too many conflicting stories for the fans to agree on. I do know what his teammates think about him, though.

After being informed of his impending release from the team, Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams is airing some dirty laundry.

In an interview with WBTV in Charlotte, Williams said defensive end Greg Hardy was the only member of the organization to attend his mother’s funeral after she died from breast cancer in May 2014.

The funeral was held May 24 in Arkansas, just 11 days after Hardy was arrested on domestic violence charges.

"One player came,'' Williams said. "And there is nothing that he can say or do in my eyes that is bad. ... Greg Hardy. All the players around the league, all the players in the locker room, they texted and called. But Greg Hardy showed up.''

He's my top FA (besides Dez). He's the pass rush we're sorely lacking.

He was found guilty. Verdict: "the court is entirely convinced Hardy is guilty of assault on a female and communicating threats."

On appeal the charges were dropped because of an out of court settlement...

HE SHOULD BE IN PRISON FOR WHAT HE DID..

Not according to the State of NC. Even if you count the bench trial, which was a misdemeanor, he was only sentenced to probation.

IMO the woman in the case was not a reliable witness. She claimed he flung her all over the apartment but had no visible injuries. Her story changed over time and during the trial and she eventually went away. She was either paid off, which may have been her motive the entire time or knew she was lying and didn't want to go through another trial and a much more thorough cross.

I would have no problem signing Hardy

Nobody really knows what happened. There are many holes in the the girl's story.

There have been many similar incidents with other players in the past and many of them were proven to be false allegations. For instance, I think the Ray McDonald allegations were proven false by video evidence.

This is how I feel too.

It was a cash grab, plain and simple. I've looked high and low for signs of this 'purported abuse' and wasn't able to find a shred of evidence. And then when news of her conflicting stories came out, the case was dropped.

But she got a nice ski vacation and shopping trip out of the deal, so there's that...

He missed 17 games in 2014 for an incident where the charges were eventually dropped. That seems like more than enough games missed. He did get paid while he was out, so they could fine him, but I don't see them suspending him for more games.

That earlier verdict was vacated in the process. And the case was dropped because the only witness was a) unavailable for the jury trial and b) had testimony from the earlier trial that conflicted with what she told officers in a police report. The 911 tape of the call Hardy made at the time of the incident also conflicted fairly significantly with her version of the story.

Hardy's a giant knucklehead, and for reasons that go beyond this particuclar incident. He might well have been guilty of the domestic violence in this case, too. But the evidence on both sides is highly unreliable, and fans have run wild with the most unflattering portrayal of the NFL player, as they're wont to do.

I haven't seen anything reported that there was an actual civil settlement in this case, either, by the way. I know the DA's office hinted they believed one existed, though the DA himself declined to speculate. Anybody know anything further on that score?

he was found guilty, he appealed and the woman(witness) disappeared, and there's information she was paid off to disappear..why the case was dropped.....he's a slug and should be in prison for what he did....amazing cowboy fans like you jump through hoops to give a player every break and blame the woman

I do know for a fact that he would immediately help our pass rush. I wanted him last year before CAR tagged him. Since Suh is out of price range, Hardy is the one guy I would spend big money on.

Why do people keep repeating this stuff without bothering to support any of it? Just look at the actual facts of the case. It's not that hard. And they don't exonerate Hardy, anyway. You can still hate the guy but just be better informed as to why you are choosing to hate him.
