I feel sorry for the really naive people who thought he was gonna play this year.
You can call it naive. I'll call it genuine hope and concern that a human being who finds himself in trouble uncovers the strength and support to turn his life around, and if it benefits the team by his return, then so be it. And you don't have to feel sorry for me. I'll be just fine.

Gee, millions of people with mental health issues self medicate with alcohol and/or weed. Yet it doesn't work for them?

And stop with the "he has a choice bs." Everyone has a choice, but when you have a mental illness you tend not to make good decisions - because, your brain - that thing you use to make decisions with - is sorta screwed up, ill even.

You can't seem to get past your own prejudices that mental illness is not a real illness.
I could care less that he smokes weed. More power to him. I just want him to produce on the football field. I don't think him smoking weed is in any way deterring from his quality of life besides the fact that he can't play football.

I am not sure why this is such a surprise. Even Jones' words last week were telling. He said even though he was out of rehab, he will be "rehabbing" for a long time. Like any addiction, it is something you end up having to fight every day.

My father was a smoker, smoked from the time he was a teen. At 55 years old he had to have a quadruple bypass. The doctor told him then if he wanted to live he had smoked his last cigarette. He quit cold turkey right then. For the 24 years following, he said he wanted one so bad at times he almost couldn't handle it, but he knew if he had one he would be back in the habit. That is how strong an addiction can be.

There could be several things at work. Some say he might have been popped again. If that is the case he is a lost cause. He will never play football again.

They may also have been told that there was no chance that the suspension would be dropped or reduced. If that is the case there is no point.

They might have decided that while he is out of rehab, he isn't anywhere near mentally or physically ready to play football. So he might as well take the penalty now and try to get him to the point where he is ready to resume football.

The thing is, I don't think he has any more to offer to this team in the short term than say Ryan Davis does. Davis has 10 sacks over the past two seasons. I would have been shocked to see Gregory get anywhere near that kind of production.

Our hopes rest with Lawrence coming off suspension, Davis adding something as a free agent and Tapper getting healthy enough to play. I don't see any chance that we make a trade for anyone that is going to make a difference. I don't see us ever going back to Hardy. Maybe Zach Moore or Chris McCain get called up to the 53 if they show any ability as spot pass rushers.

You'd know better than I would, then, but I wouldn't ordinarily assume BPD and bi-polar disorder are necessarily linked. We're also assuming what Gregory is dealing with is bi-polar disorder, right? Nobody's actually come out and said it, they've just alluded to the health issue numerous times.
I was going to ask for a link saying he was bipolar. I can't remember ever reading that from other than CZ doctors.

It's such a joke that nobody gets held accountable for this disaster.

This just tells me we aren't going anywhere this year. Shame. Next year will be a new set of bs too. Guys that are playing well now and are healthy probably won't be next year. Damnit. I would've liked to have seen our late season defense with Gregory and Lawrence. Oh well

What is the point of pulling the appeal?

You are gone 14 weeks regardless, what do you have to lose?

Makes me wonder if he failed another test or something.

Why did they disrespect Ware by giving him #94? This is Antonio Bryant all over again.

Part of recovery is taking responsibility. His people could very well know that the appeal was likely fruitless and accepting the consequences was the healthiest thing to do.

We are so far behind the draft curve it's impossible to field a dominant team. Just think if we had hit on, say 50% of our 2nd, 3rd, 4th picks.....

Just thinking that the withdrawal of the appeal could be part of his recovery process. Or he recognized that he isn't ready for football just yet. Cowboys have had a bipolar player in their midst before. The ending of that story wasn't a good one
