Some posts here are really stupid. Leave the boys worse then when he got here. NOW THAT IS DUMB. We have A LOT MORE TALENT now. GOOD GOD. We had Q and Hutch and Hambone and many other total losers when he got here. JUST PLAIN STUPID.

So in effect only Parcells could have improved us then? If Jones would have selected another coach we would have improved with personnel regardless, maybe sooner as in the case of Carter. Deciding to replace any of those players did not take astute observations.

But in that playoff ouster, [Roy] Williams was beaten twice in coverage for touchdowns, and on one of those, [Bradie] James was also burned.

Everyone correct me if I am wrong. I was one of the largest boosters for the GROZ campaign. I'm glad we've moved on. However, reading into this it seems more like an indictment that Parcells was pulling the strings and not allowing Zimmer to make any adjustments. When reading that it makes me believe Zimmer was chomping at the bit to make adjustments but Parcells would let him do so. (long pause) I admire his ability to hold back though. Did anyone else see that angle?

Prior to Parcells arriving in Dallas... didn't Zimmer make statements along the lines of:

"We don't let the offense dictate what we are doing on defense." ?????

While I'm glad that Zimmer is gone, what i got from this quote was that Parcells made him play that base coverage but he didnt want to throw a HOF coach under the bus because he knew he would look bad so he said "i dont have an answer for that." thats just IMO...

Sounded like he didn't want to throw Parcells under the bus. I said this 1001 times. If I ever saw the Cowboys in a base defense, when other offenses have their 3 and 4 wide receiver packages out there, I would jump off of my roof.

Parcells said it himself in one press conference. He doesn't like for teams to dictate what packages he put on the field. He says that he didn't like to take his base 3-4 off the field, even when they're in a spread offense. That my friends, is exactly why BP needs to go, and go NOW! He will NEVER NEVER EVER change, and teams will simply go 3 wides and the third receiver will crucify us.

Zimmer is not a bad defensive coordinator. He practically worked miracles here when Campo was the head coach.

It doesn't make sense why Zimmer wouldn't want to pressure a QB. Every DC wants that.

The answer is Zimmer wanted to blitz and put pressure on offenses but he couldn't do so because he didn't have the players. Don't believe me? HeII, play Madden and try to blitz with safeties who can't cover and a DL who can't pass rush. You too will look like a defensive coordinator who chooses not to pressure a QB.

I went to OU. I saw every game Roy Williams played there and I can tell you that his coverage skills were terrible then too. He was hyped because of his hits and game saving plays...most notably his performance in his final game against Texas. Nothing has changed. Roy is a great safety overall but has always been lousy in coverage and the main reason is that he isn't fast...he was never fast! It's that simple. Our corners are not much better either. Aaron Glenn is getting old and Anthony Henry is inconsistent.

If you want to blame someone for not getting pressure, blame Parcells for his drafts. The only great defensive player he has drafted is Ware. He is only player that can put any pressure on a QB whatsoever. That's not Zimmer's fault.

Amazing what Brett Robin trying to block Roy low twice in a row did for Roy's draft status and career isn't it?
btw: I think Roy is plenty fast enough he just can't change directions.

And, additionally, given that your pass rush is anemic at best and more often than not non-existent. If you're going to rush 5 and get nowhere, you might as well rush 2-3 and drop 8-9 guys into umbrella coverage.

Just curious, what is so objectionable about what Zimmer said? More confusion for offenses and more nickel packages when teams are picking on your LBs in coverage? That's outrageous?

What is kinda disturbing is that I really dont expect much to change if Tuna comes back and has co-defensive coordinators or whatever you call it.

Unless we bring in somebody from the outside, I really dont think much is going to change.

If Tuna stays, this is going to be one depressing offseason. Maybe if we back the bus up and bring in about 4-5 stud FA we might have a chance, but I kinda doubt it.

Well it looks like I missed your post. I thought the exact same thing man. I believe you're absolutely right. Bill's stubbornness will continue to be the detriment of this team if something else is shaken and stirred.

Perhaps, Zimmer paused and answered as he did to avoid throwing anyone else under the bus.

That response sounds like someone who is pleading the fifth in order to avoid incriminating anyone.

Now, it could very well be that Zimmer should be blamed for the 5-week meltdown, and inability to cover anyone when the defense was spread out. That is a very real possibility. Perhaps he never adjusted due to his inexperience with the 3-4.

There is also a possibility that Parcells vetoed Zimmer's proposed adjustments, and stubbornly stayed in the 3-4 base defense (this theory has been proposed several times). If this is the case, and a reporter were trying to draw this out of Zimmer, his response is not only plausible, but smart.

Why?

Well, Zimmer has just accepted a DC position reporting to a new Head Coach. If he were to go out and throw his old HC under the bus as one of his first public statements, not only would that be bad form, but Petrino (assuming he has the intellectual capacity that everyone says he has) would take the statement as a dangerous precedent ... If Zimmer is willing to throw his old HC under the bus when things go wrong ...

So, either Zimmer was stating that he didn't have an answer because he really didn't know what to do during the season, or he didn't have an answer because he didn't want to cr$% on anyone else.

He's either: a) honest and stupid, or b) overruled but diplomatic ... Methinks that in time the answer will be revealed.
