I'm in Jerry's corner, but he doesn't help himself when he's referring to himself as the "ranking owner" when talking to these guys. The league is built on 32 teams being equally represented, even if one team or one owner is more successful, you don't throw it in people's faces. That's dumb.
That said, these other owners should also realize that Jones and the Cowboys make them all rich. Very rich. And Goodell and his inept administration do nothing but to take that money away. With lawsuits, bad press, and their failure to resolve the anthem thing.
What upsets me is that more owners aren't smart enough to realize that Jones is right and there's no way that Goodell should be kept around.
All these leaks are trying to get Jerry to quit his vendetta against Goodell and to poison public opinion. Every day it's something different. Jerry needs to keep fighting no matter what .
Its the NY Times, they checked the sources, second to the Wall Street Journal its the most established in American history so I figure they are right.
That said, I agree with you, Jerry can come off as arrogant, but really he should be cause most of the owners don't know what they are doing.
Anyway, I digress, banning Jerry, fines whatever. But the mention of draft picks that hurts the team cause he made a stand?? Yeah that bothers me.
Well I call it jealousy cause even though others have won rings, they still aren't more important than Jerry and the Cowboys for the league.
What upsets me is this ain't some internet blog, tweet, snapchat, or whatever social media you like.
Its the freaking NY Times.
This is exactly what I have always said. I think Jerry-the-Owner is the best owner in the league. While some may hate his persona, I like it and I like his passion for the team. I also like that he talks about any and everything so the fans constantly know what's going on with the team, good and bad.
What I have never liked is Jerry-the-GM. I think Jerry-the-GM is no better at GM than many of us would be. I do believe he has been letting go of more GM decisions and listening more to his staff and scouts in the past few years, but with him still lingering as "GM" in title, there will always be doubts, finger pointing, etc. at every decision the team makes regarding players, coaches, etc.
Jerry should realize he's in his golden years now and he should be willing to hire a real GM and let that GM choose the coaches and players. Jerry-the-Owner will always be a media magnet so he will still get all of the attention he gets now, but with none of the blame as he can blame it all on the GM and his staff going forward.
damn i can't wait for opening day baseball.
If they take draft picks I am done. You can count on that. I'll never watch another NFL game.
I think you missed the point. I was treating the two Jerry personas as two different people completely detached from each other meaning when talking about Jerry-the-Owner, there is no Jerry-the-GM, and vice-versa.I just can't agree that he is the best owner when he has himself as the GM.
this issue and the others issues that are creeping into football are about power , money, that has far higher origins than just football and rich owners. The fact that that GOODELL IS THERE because of political connections should clue everyone to the bowing of the knee to powers outside of football itself. This reminds if hiw the chancellor plotted with few senators ti become the emperor in starwars. Goodell has that same face like Palpatine. Dak is our last Jedi
I hope that there is a real group of owners that stupid and enough balls to be taken quickly to court and thrashed for blatant stupidity in the real world. Jerry, by NFL standards, is no eye sore waiting to be punished.
I'd quit watching the NFL entirely, if that ran the course...
Which, listening to Jerry's interview on Monday, is part of the constitution of the NFL. It apparently states that all owners have to vote on the contract of the commissioner. I don't see why Jerry would lie about that.Yeah and I think I'm done if they re-hire Goodell. He's so woefully incompetent and maniacally power hungry. I thought Bud Selig was an awful commissioner, but Goodell really takes it to a new level. And with that, I can just watch MLB, college basketball and the PGA Tour more.
I can live with people making mistakes and the occasional bad decision, but if the owners are intent on shooting themselves in the foot and think that it's a good idea to not only give him an extension, but to pay him another $200 million and a lifetime jet, then there's no motivation for me to look forward to the future of the league.
And it's not like Jerry is asking for some crazy demands...he's asking that all owners be allowed to vote on the extension, he wants to limit more of the commissioner's power (which every fan and media outlet has said needs to be done) and has the gall to be concerned about the drop in ratings, attendance and sponsors fleeing regional TV as well as one major sponsor, Papa John's, being none too happy with Goodell.
The league has become increasingly 'no fun.' Forget about the injuries and the way the game is being played, just the pure politics and scheming that goes on with the league has turned the league into something it should never be.
