Zimmer reminds me a lot of Quincy Carter and Drew Bledsoe.

Hot and cold. One week you're wondering why in the hell do they have a job then they go out and shine for a week. THey did enough for a while to keep their jobs, but sooner or later it catches up to you and you have three bad weeks in a row.

Zimmer has the talent on D to force 3 turnovers a week and sack the QB 5 times a week.

None of us know if this is BPs design or Zimmer's, thats why it's hard to say GROZ, or Blame it on Bill.

Our defense is pretty good right now, but I think it could dominate the league, kinda like Chicago but with better run defense.

I know it's not every week, but this defense always seems to make an aweful QB look great every third week. See last game when Eli looked like Payton.
IMO, it is naive to think that this isn't Parcells' baby.

Parcells is a defensive guy, he brought his 3-4 scheme to town, drafted the players .... Parcells is very much involved in the game planning. I'd bet my house on it.

Wow!

You don't know where culpability starts and ends with the defense?

It ain't Zimmer-- come'on!

Why do other teams around the league fear our defense? Oh yeah, because it's good. If our defense was bad, the normal people with brains would point that out. They aren't. You people that think our defense is bad have a serious case of CLUELESS

Of course it is Parcells' "baby".

Folks (not you) seem to think Parcells falls into some sorta catatonic state when the subject of "defense" or "pass-rush" comes up at Valley Ranch.

Parcells has already fingered the culprits on the poor pass rush-- Canty and Spears.

It's not Zimmer.

We won a shootout. I'm happy, but Manning didn't lose the game like he has recently.

The game was in New York with the Giants back against the wall, what did you expect? The Giants are a good football team and Eli is a good QB.

What is largely overlooked about Eli's game is that our defense dropped 2 interceptions. Those would have had a big impact on the perception that Eli picked this defense apart.

And even though our players failed to get turnovers that were basicly handed to them we still won the game.

Somebodys doing something right.

Yeah. I agree. This is obvious.

I'm back and forth on Zimmer and while I do wish that we were getting more pressure and more sacks on QB's, you really can't complain about where our defense is rated.

But, we still need to generate more rush on the QB's.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Zimmer isn't the second coming of Buddy Ryan but his defense is playing well right now so why change it. At some point the players are going to have to perform in spite of the scheme and hold themselves accountable for any failures. Zimmer, IMO, is a nonfactor in the grand scheme of things.

And what if we do those "stunts" and the Giants are running a delayed draw? The chances are good there will be a hole open somewhere.

Parcells has used this method for more years than many on this board have been alive. It's obviously worked to some extent.

But it is Parcells and not Zimmer.

I'm pretty sure that's why we have four linebackers.

being as bill is the one that decided for zimmer to stay, and bill tells zimmer how he wants the games approched i guess those who think jeffcoat is right should just be honest and say we should fire bill and hire jeffcoat as hc.
by the way where is jeffcoat coaching at?

The linebackers aren't stationary... they are either manning up on the receivers assigned to them or they are dropping into their zones.

Loved Jeffcoat as a player but I wouldn't let him coach a Pee Wee league team. Jeffcoat was never known for being a student of the game and his coaching (Dallas d-line) showed.

Linebackers go through a progression of reads just like a quarterback.

The idea of a delayed draw is to let the linebackers migrate to their pass protection responsibilities.

Well, I heard D Woodson on ESPN radio last night saying Zimmer would be a great choice for a open college coaching HC job (Arizona State?) and said he would be perfect. He also went on to say how everyone should notice that BP kept ONLY Zimmer around and how he had ditched the rest of the coaches here when he arrived. He said BP kept zimmer because Zimmer knows football.
And isn't it amazing that no matter how many different coordinators we bring in that we continue to not produce like we should and yet the only thing that's constant is our DC.

Our D will NEVER reach its full potential until he's gone.

Once again our D is paper champions.

Just like when we were the so-called #1 rated D a few years back it meant nothing to me.

They didn't produce when they needed to and that's what separates the average D's from the great ones.

Uhhhh....No. Neither of the games we won against the Mannings was a "shootout." The games had a total of 35 and 43 points respectively. Those scores hardly qualify as "shootouts."

People, the question wasn't: "Why does our defense suck?", it was "Why can't we get copnsistent pressure on the QB?". Jeffcoat's answer was that "the DC doesn't put the players in position to win". We have a good defense but we don't pressure the QB consistently and haven't since 1995, long before Parcells arrived on the scene.

It is NOT about sacks as much as it is about pressure. We don't put consistent pressure on the opposing QB and that is a fact. It is also a fact that it has been that way since Campo was the DC and has continued with Zimrod. This has been a problem long before Parcells came to Dallas.

We have a good defense with a lot of talent and we SHOULD be putting pressure on opposing QBs but we aren't. Years ago the excuse was that we didn't have the talent on defense so it wasn't Campo/Zimrod's fault, well what's the excuse now? Oh, that's right, Parcells is holding it back. Puhleeeese!

Every other defense Parcells has coached put pressure on the QB so why not ours. The fact that it was this way before Parcells arrived and has continued connected with the fact that he has always done it before leaves only a single source... Mike Zimmer. He is the only one who has been here throughout and is the reason why we don't have a passrush. No more excuses of lack of talent and the BS that it is Parcells is ridiculous as this was a problem long before he came here. (Have I said that as many times as Winicki said that it was Parcells yet?).

I pray every week that we WON'T blitz because we suck at it. We basically rushed Ware and Ellis and that was about it. Now that Ellis is out we have Ware. Opposing QBs have all day to throw.

One question for you Thumper: Which players, other than Ware and Ellis, were known for their pass rush abilities before they arrived in Dallas? Ever hear of the expression, "making silk purses out of sow's ears?" Keep in mind that Parcells wants well-rounded football players on his defense and not just pass rushers.

Well, shootout may have been a poor choice. I was more reffering to the end when we swapped late scores, Manning has been bad in those situations, not against us though.
