COACHING.

Heck Newman and PacMan are still playing decent.

Garrett squanders talent.

Definitely. But don't stop there. Linehan and Marinelli are bad as well.

Marinelli is an old man who loves "projects" so he can try and show everyone how good he is turning a bunch of nobodies into a good defense. He's stuck in his ways. He even passed on TY Watt because he didn't fit in his system which was ridiculous. It's like he purposely wants a crappy group of players to take the heat off how bad he is as a coach. The narrative will always be 'he does the best he can with what he has'.

Carr was really good in KC, one of the top CB's in the league. DBs are going to look much better when there is a consistent pass rush and we haven't had one for quite a long time. We run a Cover 2, bend but don't break defense and that doesn't lend itself for aggressive DB play, especially without QB pressure. It's easy to blame Marinelli, but it's not like he's been given much to work with. He's had to turn chicken poop into chicken salad year after year and he's done a pretty good job when you consider what he has to work with.

Dallas was 5th in the league in scoring defense last year, we just held NYG to 3 points in week 1.

Carry on with your overreaction from one game.

The giants offense is trash and has been for over a season. Not a good indicator.

One game? The points against was largely due to our offense. Pts/drive we were very average/below average.

If this defense needs a stop at the end of the game to win, do they get it? Very rarely.

The over reaction is out of control right now.

Reading this board you would think we are literally the worst team in the league.

Terrible players, terrible coaching, terrible schemes, terrible game plans, etc, etc.

I think it's worse now than it was after week 1, 2014....and we know how that season turned out after 1 bad game.

So you think our defense is fixed? I think we have a great team, top 8 in the league.

But the limit will always be what the defense does against good teams. It's been that way for a long, long time. And this defense won't get us where we want to go.

Where in the world did I say, or even imply, that I think "the defense is fixed"?

I'm not making any ridiculous proclamations after a whopping 2 games have been played. That would be dumb. It's way too early for this.

Should have never let him go. Like I said before, he's not a great player, but he's consistent, and rarely got destroyed. Should have just let him finish out his contract, not like we're spending anything on FA's these days.

OK, I'll agree it always takes time to see what we have our who will make a huge leap.

I'm not even looking at the games we've played yet. History says Rod will play conservative schemes which require superior talent to have an above average defense.

I didn't see anything this offseason which gives me much hope we've significantly improved our talent on D. I sense a playoff exit as soon as we face a good QB in the post season is our ceiling. But that's only based on my own evaluation of who we have on the field.

I don't think they "let him go", I think he did finish out his contract.

The part that bothers me is how they ever thought that Nolan Carroll was somehow an adequate replacement. They obviously did, because they showed interest in him for two years straight. In 2016, when they were pressuring Carr to take a pay cut, and again in 2017, when they had a first-come, first-served contract offer on the table. Carroll took it, and Carr got a better deal in Baltimore.

Carr isn't great, but Carroll looks incompetent.

Carroll was a nightmare from the start. My most fond memories of Carroll over the years is him getting torched by a very average Dez.

I never knew what they saw in him from the first time his name was mentioned. But I approached it from the angle of "they're professionals, maybe they see something I don't?" Turns out? No. They saw something that's obviously not there.

And now, because of injuries and ineptitude, they're scrambling.

Maybe it's time to let old Rod go out to the sunset...

Another year of the same results... same excuses we just never improve

And he gets guys like Tcrawford paid...
When does two games equate to a whole season?

I mean quarterbacks last year routinely had six - seven seconds and oddly enough yesterday also.

Not keeping Leary and at least one of the corners was just bonehead.

But then again big red has a built-in excuse if he doesn't produce
So throw another 50 mil at one corner or keep the other who can't stay on the field for more than 5 games. Overpay for guys who aren't producing. same ol' same ol'
