The Todd Bertuzzi/Steve Moore incident is the closest thing in pro sports that I could think of that was similar. Granted, Moore suffered much more than Gurode.

Bertuzzi was suspended for basically 17 months (through the lockout, he may have been back sooner).

He had criminal charges filed against him and received 1 year of probation.

I just saw the play on Fox's NFL Postgame. Haynesworth kicked him TWICE! First, he kicked him in the back of the head, then he stomped down on Gurode's face.

Yeah, to me the first kick was a deliberate attempt to get Gurode to look up. Once Haynesworth was successful at "tapping" the back of his head to make him look up to see who kicked him... then he did what he had intended all along, and that was to stomp on his face.

Truly Disgraceful.

Police/D.A. have every right to arrest and pursue/press charges for any crimes committed in their jurisdiction.

Right? Hell, it is a responsibility.

I concur. No matter the fine or suspension, I suspect Cowboy Nation won't be satisified.

I think they should suspend him for the season without pay with the exception of making financial restitution to Gurode.

I'm going to say that making restitution is outside the scope of the league's power.

I had the game Tivo'd and after watching that incident over and over again... It was very much intentional. In slow motion and two different angles you can see him kick the back of his helmet, reach down and take his helmet off with his hands, stand straight up, look down as he stepped on his head acting like he was stepping over him, look down again and go out of his way to reach over and stomp on his face. He could have easily caused a brain injury or blindness and I'm not so sure that he wasn't trying to do just that. That was one of the most horrible displays of poor sportsmanship that I have ever witnessed in football. It reminds me of when I was a kid and seeing the Raiders throw opposing players into the goal posts and injuring them

The Commish had better ban him from the sport, fine him and he should have to pay back anything the Titans have paid him for the rest of his contract that he wouldn't be able to fulfill due to his blatant criminal act. And there should definately be criminal charges pressed for battery

I don't mean to rush him, but I wonder if he'll play next week.

depends on his vision. The DMN blog is saying he's got blurred vision.

If not we'll see AJ.

I certainly hope Gurode can play next week....I think we need his presence at the center position.

Am I the only one that thinks Haynesworth was wearing sharpened cleats?

The "Step" was bad, but it sure did cause a lot more damage then it looked like it should have.

Even if his cleats were not sharpened, he should be banished from the league. We're not talking about a cheap shot here, people, we're talking about a criminal act. No way should that guy ever play in the NFL again.

And if his cleats were sharpened? Don't even get me started. I'd strap him to a missile and send him to iraq (if you know what I mean) and that would just be the beginning.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment in here-- Haynesworth deserves a season-long suspension, if not longer. I would like to say that his postgame response seemed sincere -- he may be a decent person who did a terrible thing. That doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be prosecuted, sued, suspeneded, loathed, etc. I'm all for that. Just pointing out that at least he realizes he did something awful. There are probably players in the league not even capable of that kind of remorse.

Was the actions of Haynesworth considered criminal? It sure looked intentional. Off the field of play that action is called assault and could be prosecuted.

Off the field that is aggravated assault with serious bodly injury and could be filed as a felony. And it should be in this case
