***Gurode released*** MERGED

Why is that? These young guys are looking better than what the vets OL showed who helped us get 6-10.

I have to agree.

I'll take what I've already seen from T Smith over the Colombo of last season.

Holland probably could have replaced Bigg last year and there would have been no difference.

Not a fan of cutting Gurode, to be perfectly perfectly candid.

However, I'm merely a fan, and I only think year-to-year. I want the Cowboys to field the most competitive team possible each season -- an approach that isn't always in the best long-term interest of the team.

I'm beginning to think that Garrett has assessed this team's potential, and concluded that it isn't playoff-caliber. Consequently, he's making decision to become competitive in future seasons.
There is a list of players on this team that tilt our season one way or the other from a playoffs standpoint...and that list is still intact. Not saying you need a Pro Bowler at every position (even though we did that a couple of years ago, on our way to another season without a playoff win), but you cannot pay Leonard Davis, Andre Gurode, etc....top dollar to be average players.

Philly's offensive line is so bad, I would be kind of surprised if he didnt end up there, unless he's still got eagle hate after being a Cowboy for so long.

I think they could have gotten SOMETHING for him, if he didnt announce it on live TV Saturday maybe they could have called some teams but I dont agree with cutting him outright at all. I just dont trust this new Kowalski kid, Costa wont be ready until after week one.

I love getting younger but that is a bit too young, too fast for me and for Romo's health. Really hope this works out, they should have made the move earlier so we could have seen the kid more.
Earlier? Gurode didn't play one snap in TC this year. The kids have taken every sanp.
I should have said PS game, rather than TC. That said, the kids still got almost all of the practice snaps.

add another question mark to a team already full of question marks.

Yes. The difference is that the offensive players had fat contracts that they did not live up to last year.

Some might argue that Newman has a fat contract but he is still the best at his position unless Jenkins can supplant him.
Yeah that can be the only reason.

If anything this is telling me Garrett may be getting the authority to do whatever he wants... Guess that's one good thing.

No one wanted to assume Gurode's salary... That's why there was no trade.

Romo is going to get killed? As opposed to what–last year? It wasn't like Dallas QB's were operating behind the "Great Wall of China" last year. Give me a break.

Maybe Costa was just better than Gurode? What a wild thought huh?

And no, Dallas will not be trading for any other lineman.

Finally, these guys practice each and every day against a defense that is more wild and wacky than anything brother Rex will throw against them on 9-11. I'm not too concerned.

Eagles are starting a rookie at center, Kelce. Just announced. Jamaal Jackson will back him up. They have Jackson at about a 3 million dollar base. He knows the system and I don't think they would swap him for Gurode.

Gurode will wind up somewhere but I don't think it will be Philly.

So after the 6-10 season we were begging for change. Now that we get changed everyone is like "OMG we're doomed, seasons over!"

I don't get it.

^This.

From one of the other threads about Gurode, there was mention of the rumor of a degenerative knee condition as well as the fact that some Chargers players were saying that he has lost a step (good pass blocker/awful run blocker). This is purely a business decision. For what Garrett wants to do from an offensive scheme (agile, athletic lineman that can get to the next level/block in space), Gurode no longer fits that description.

Sounds right to me... well said...

This was a good move.

In the short term it <might> mean we aren't as good of a team -- however, in the long term this was absolutely the right decision.

Yeah? I know Costa has but maybe its just that I didn't notice him but I never saw Kowlaski taking any first team reps until the Viking game.

4-12? If we go 4-12 something went seriously, seriously wrong...as long as this new young line works out they still have a lot of potential to win the division/make the playoffs.

Yeah that can be the only reason.

I could be wrong about Newman being untouchable this year but not knowing what version of Jenkins the Cowboys will get buys him time. I just feel that Dallas does not want to go into the season with Alan Ball as the 3rd CB.

Right a change that would improve the team.

How are Holland and Brooking still on the team? Either do the re-build full out or not at all.
