It doesn't bother me that we made this kind of move, it's that we made 3 of this kind of move with one unit in one year, which leaves us with a hell of a lot of inexperience protecting Romo.

This is exactly my issue.

And from the team that has struggled so mightily to find linemen for the past decade plus?

While I'm cautiously for the move, it's definitely a very big risk for this year that could come back to haunt us in 2011/12. But let's try a hypothetical -- would you rather have this kind of ambitious performance/potential-based youth movement or would you rather have the Wade Phillips' seniority-based approach (for lack of better terminology)? If you had to choose one or the other, that is.

If our management can't make the right moves, we're not going to build a winner, anyway. I say just trust them until at least there's a track record of failure under Garrett to point to. So far, at least, most of his personnel moves have looked pretty good to me.

I don't mean to pick out your post, because many people have said this the last several days. But since it's in this thread... When was it established that Gurode didn't work hard? I've never heard that.

I remember years ago when Ryan Young retired and was on local radio a lot the following year. That was when Gurode was struggling at guard for Parcells, making a lot of mistakes. Someone asked him what he thought Gurode's problem was, and he said it was hard to put a finger on, because he was smart and worked very hard in the weight room and on the field.

Maybe age just caught up with him, but I don't see why we have to make these guys out to be bums when we cut them.

We released a very good player, now I hope the youngins can play near his level in the interim especially when we play Detroit.

I would just counter that this isn't Garrett's first year here, he's been here for several years. And those years included guys like Bright and Brewster and a trade for Alex Barron.

So he's got some smudges on him too.

I'm both happy and worried about these moves.

Happy that we are shaking up the status quo and chasing off several high-priced guys that got too comfortable.

But worried that it's too much too soon and may come back to bite us (or Romo!).

However, if you have the courage to make this move, I would hope they have the same amount of courage to send Holland packing.

Yeah, because the guys blocking for Romo last year were so amazing. How many times have we seen Romo run for his life the last 2-3 years? How many times have we had to give up trying to throw deep because the line couldn't block long enough? How many 3rd/4th and shorts did we not make?

The problem with this thinking is it only considers one side of the equation. You also have to consider who is available to replace him. I loe the youth movement, but we are banking an awful lot on guys that haven't proven a single thing in the NFL.

Just an FYI on the cap impact of Gurode being cut.

Gurode was due a $5.5 million base salary in 2011. He will now count $1.6 million against the salary cap this year in dead money and $1.6 million next year.

So a savings of $3.9M this year and I'm not sure what he was to make last year.

EDIT: He was set to make $6.5M next year so a saving of $4.9M next season.

And what do you base this on? He is a pro bowler and played great for us just last year? You people drink the kool-aid that having the star on your helmet automatically makes you great. AG is proven! Not to mention when Philly gets him it helps the them improve the worst part of their stacked team! This team is rebuilding and not a contender for anything other than getting Andrew Luck!!!! Wake the *** up people!!!! The talent on this team certainly has not improved.

But Jerry's cashflow has.
