Hey guys. Since this is a bit of a dead period, thought it would be fun to make an entire starting lineup of guys the cowboys once had on their team but they got rid of them and went on to have productive careers. Im talking offense, defense and special teams. Anyone wanna give this a try?

How about Should of been Cowboys like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss.

Specifically about what you wrote - Todd Christensen who did not want to be a TE but became a pretty good one. Another would be Jimmy Smith.

when I saw the draft story on Jerry Rice I was mad. I had no idea we were that close to getting him.

I think it was that the Cowboys released Christensen, because they had a lot of TE's already. And he resented that he was cut, because he wanted to be a Cowboy.

anyway, the one and only player Tex Schramm was ever talked out of ever drafting was Joe Montana. Dallas needed a TE, and selected Doug Cosbie instead, which turned out to be a very good choice, as they had a very good QB in Danny White at the time.

Steve Wisniewski

I don't recall if we got picks from the raiders that landed us Moose or KNJr.

If so, this pick may be "even".

Cowboys — Traded Steve Wisniewski, 1989 sixth round pick (#140-Jeff Francis) to Raiders for 1989 second round pick (#39-Daryl Johnston), 1989 third round pick (#68-Rhondy Weston), 1989 fifth round pick (#119-Willis Crockett)

Moss didn't get away we never had any intention of drafting him and it was a good decision then and now.

Jimmy Smith couldn't stay healthy so that's a no brainer.

Christensen maybe

Wisnewski IMO we got the better end of that deal.

We will never know that. He could have been gone after his rookie deal was up.

Thankfully we never had to worry about it.

Randy Moss, Desean Jackson, Percy Harvin.

Harvin hasn't even played a down yet. I don't think rueage applies here.

It doesn't... But he will make plays and be a more versatile Steve Smith when its all said and done. IMO.
