Had this been a different athlete...

I can see Stephen A Smith talking about it, Cold Pizza, Best Sports Show, Mike & Mike, PTI, Round the Horn, etc. ... those are SPORTS shows !!

But the O'Reilly factor, Greta, Joe S., Hannity & Coombs ??

Those aren't sports shows !

This was a non-story and they cranked it up to a National Event, ... if that's not a media-created circus I don't know what is.

Owens had done nothing wrong since he was suspended by the Iggles, and yet everything he does is scrutinized, ridiculed, hyped up, and exaggerated.
At this rate how could he ever change opinions of himself?

Well they did the same with Rothlisberger as well and yes on the O'Reilly factor and other news outlets that do not cover sports. You can attack the media all you want but evidently your tuning in to it so your just helping what your gripping about.

but what's the "real" story? TO or a suicide attempt?

hell put them together you don't have to work for a week or longer just because you can rehash this possiblity to death. or hopes the story itself will committ suicide.

i'd have to agree that if you put suicide next to a celeb's name you're gonna get a big reaction. put it next to TO's and all of a sudden everyone wants to play doctor/shrink.

nature of the beast.

Surely after sitting back and watching all of this and seeing him yesterday afternoon and hearing that he practiced you aren't still buying into any suicide crap are you ?

Whoever started the suicide crap is the one that should be answering questions in a PC.

Early yesterday morning ESPN wasn't reporting anything about suicide, just the reaction, ... sometime between 8 & 9 it started.

So how was this Owens fault ?
It's not TO's fault how it was reported. But TO is directly responsible for how he is perceived by fans and the media. This is fishbowl he created.

If there was not a false suicide report, none of this happens.
It was a preliminary report, based on preliminary findings. And I imagine any first responder showing up at someone's house regardless of the patient may have come to the same conclusions.

And actually, if his publicist doesn't come over to his house, we never hear about this.
If his publicist hadn't been there, he could've very well died. Seeing as he was doped up and non-responsive. We don't know what kinda treatment he actually received. So let's not blame her for calling 911. Now her PC comments is a totally different thing. But I don't blame her one bit for making that call.

Your right 1st reports were a bad reaction, Dallas TV station broke the news of a possible suicide attempt based on the initial reports from the Dallas Police who sense has changed the report evidently after doing a follow up on this.

On the nosey.

OK, I tune in to the O'Reilly factor to hear about national and international news, and because they turn a non-story into a national event I contribute.

So if I hadn't watched last night I guess they would not have been guilty of turning a non-story into a national event.

1. in no way, shape form or fashion do i think TO committed suicide or tried to or even wants to. that's all hammered moose crap.
2. however, put that word next to a celebs name and "we the people" gotta know all about it.
3. put it next to TO's and look what happens.

it's all garbage to me and i hate the fact that the media can lie out their arse and when presented with facts to the contrary, like many fans they just dig deeper and reach further.

we get this with TO - like it or not. TO does bring it upon himself, like it or not. but the media doesn't have to lie about it.

yet we excuse that cause of *who* they lie about.

go figure.

Come on, they show all the stories he is going to cover at the start of the show. Don't tell me you did not know that he was going to talk about it. Evidently you knew also that the other shows on FOX was going to talk about it as well since you mentioned them as well.

If every time he coughs or sneezes it's on SportsCenter, who created the fishbowl? That's my point.

Once again, "Owens has done nothing wrong since he was suspended by the Iggles, and yet everything he does is scrutinized, ridiculed, hyped up, and exaggerated. At this rate how could he ever change opinions of himself?"

No, you're right, I don't blame her at all, I may have done the same thing.
But, after hearing all of this, I don't think that his life was ever in danger.

I have wondered why we haven't heard from a ER doctor or anything.

Privacy Act.

No way a doctor could, or would, ever talk.

You have missed my whole point.

It's not that I don't want to see it, it's WHY is a non-story on every news show and channel all evening long ??

Because someone INSERTED a suicide thread to juice it up.

That's when this story took off and it turned out to be false.

Reminds me of the MI false rape report.

It was a national news story because rape is mentioned and that part turned out to be false.

I've seen doctors interviewed on TV many many times, Giving reports of health status, prognosis, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the point of this thread is they would not be doing this to any other athlete and the fact is they would and they have in the past

With the permission of the patient or family. Doctors are not allowed to comment without that.

Those doctors have been authorized to do so - or they are secondhand doctors, with no direct relationship with the patient, giving generic accounts.

He did. He did it by being a VERY successful wide receiver. He did it when he did funky TD celebrations. He did it when he stood on the star. He did it when he brought out the sharpie after a TD. He did it when he made the super duber return for the super bowl. He did it everytime he opened his mouth and something nonconformist came out. He did it with all the chaos he caused in Philly.

And finally, he did it just by being himself.

Once again, "Owens has done nothing wrong since he was suspended by the Iggles, and yet everything he does is scrutinized, ridiculed, hyped up, and exaggerated. At this rate how could he ever change opinions of himself?"
By getting on the field and going balls out. In the meantime, I wouldn't worry about it.

Like SP said, privacy act. No doctor who wants to continue practicing medicine will speak out without patient permission.

I don't think there has ever been a time that he stepped on the field that he didn't go balls out, so that's not it.

OK, I won't worry about it.

My whole point here is that people are saying, "there goes Owens doing his crap again."

And my question is, what did he do?

If he does things against the team, like they say he did in Philly and SF, then I will hold that against him like everyone else.

But I don't like the fact that he is held accountable for stuff he doesn't do but others aren't.

While I completely agree that TO brings the attention to himself in a general sense I don't think that exonerates the media today. Yesterday I understand. The story breaks, who cares how or why, and you bet it's gonna get covered because it's TO. But please explain to me why today the media is turning this all into TO's fault. No one wants to except his story today even though all yesterday morning they were crying for TO to come out an explain it. He did and it's not good enough. I guess he's a liar too now.
