While I completely agree that TO brings the attention to himself in a general sense I don't think that exonerates the media today. Yesterday I understand. The story breaks, who cares how or why, and you bet it's gonna get covered because it's TO. But please explain to me why today the media is turning this all into TO's fault. No one wants to except his story today even though all yesterday morning they were crying for TO to come out an explain it. He did and it's not good enough. I guess he's a liar too now.

The media answers to no one.

Say or write whatever you want, and right or wrong, whatever you say becomes truth.

In this instance, my problem is everybody wants or is waiting for Owens to change, but from what I can see, he will never be allowed to change.

he dug a pretty deep hole, and people will let him out of it on their own time, if they ever do. in the end it's still up to owens.

That's my point, it's not up to Owens.

I think he has tried to do what is right since he signed with Dallas. I really do.

But since then he has been villified ...
For releasing a book that was written before he signed here,
For pulling a hamstring,
For wearing a cycling jersey,
For being late for a practice or whatever, (the only thing that he has done wrong IMO)
For having an allergic reaction to medicine.

If they are going to spin these innocent things into the large issues that they have, he will never be able to change peoples perception of him, and after a while, may not even care to try any more.

If this were us, or our brother, or our son, we may have a different perspective of all of this.

As far as T.O. is concerned, his media whoreship is a creation of the media itself. T.O. has been partially responsible for the attention, but the fact that the media overemphasizes every aspect of his life, shows that they are becoming more and more responsible for his prostitution. They are his pimp, and they proved their agenda as well as their stupidity yesterday with their own circus creation.

I really dont understand the media bashing over this. There is precedent for this stuff, it is not like no athlete that has ever lived has not gone through this.

You have a very visible Sport, maybe the most visible, Football

You have a very visible Organization, The Cowboys

You have a rich, talented and controversial Athlete, Terrell Owens

For this not to be blown out of proportion would surprise me.

There are a ton of athletes who fit Owens profile and played in visible sports and franchises.

Chris Simms, The Bungles Players? Please, none of those examples even come close to the mixture you would need to create an atmosphere we saw yesterday.

Some examples that would create similar situations would be guys like A-Rod, Barry Bonds, Ray Lewis, Chad Johonson etc etc. I have no doubt if this had happened to some of those brief examples, you would get the same reaction.

"Create" being a key word in all of this.

Not really...they read the Police Transcript and ran with it. When I first heard of it from news sources, all made sure to include that "all the facts in the matter were unclear" and that it was a "possible suicide".

I havent sat around all day and listened to every news source and I am sure some people tried to make a name for themselve yesterday.

Doesn't matter, it will happen again and again because people enjoy sensationalism and gossip and there are a ton of athletes not named Terrell Owens that it would happen to as well.

Accusing someone of attempting suicide is a very strong and personal accusation.

It should not be thrown around lightly or without knowing the facts.

A "false" accusation of attempted suicide is a terrible, wrong thing.

It is as personal as accusing someone of murder, or accusing someone of rape(oh, wait, that's been done too!) or accusing someone of child molestation or cheating on a spouse.

It can be very damaging even if it turns out not to be true.

This was reported as fact yesterday which is extremely unfair to Owens, and for some to say he brought that on himself is like saying a girl asked to be raped because she was dressed scantly. WRONG !

It was in the police report and the media reported it. How is that "accusing" anyone of anything?

BTW, good posting Mike. I agree with you.

I agree. Had that not been in the police report this would not have become as big of a story as it became. I don't fault the police for doing their job or the media. Only thing I will fault the media for is going over board but then that is nothing new

It was in the narrative, not the report.

The sooner people understand the difference, and stop referring to the narrative as a "report", the better.

Please forgive me for my misgivings, Superpunk. You should email the DMN and correct their ignorance, as this report is labeled "Police Report" on their front page:

http://www.***BANNED-URL***/s/dws/img/09-06/0927toreport2.pdf

And WV, thanks to you too for the definition of "accuse". I wasn't sure what that word meant.

Fine!!!! If it was not in the police NARRATIVE this would not be an issue. it was however in it and that is what brought this about. Feel better?

Dude, lighten up, I knew you knew what it meant, I put that there to support why I thought he was accused.

Why was the NARRATIVE redacted?
