Hakeem Nicks was well on his way to becoming a top 5 WR in the NFL before he suffered the same injury Dez has. I know most people aren't concerned with this injury but after doing more research about it I am more concerned than ever

ESPN's Dr. Mark Adickes said 4-6 weeks was an aggressive timeframe, and a more likely timeframe for Dez Bryant's recovery is 8-12 weeks.

When Hakeem Nicks broke fifth metatarsal in his right foot in May 2012, initial timetable from Giants for recovery: 12 weeks. #Dez

Nicks is the absolute worst case (effectively career ending OR at least career ruining).

Julio Jones is the next worst case -- missed 11 games (went on IR after game 5).

I am sure there are many more cases where WRs comes back from this injury on time without complications.

Anybody have any examples for the rest of us to hang our hat on?

Nicks was never top five. It just seemed that way because he always destroyed Dallas. He also was completely reliant on his athletic ability. Dez as athletic as he is not the same way.

If they bring him back before the bye they're crazy. Don't screw around with your $70 mil man.

In 2010 & 2011, he had 155 Rec for 2244 Yds and 18 TD...before the injury he was really good

2010 - 79 receptions, 1,052 yards, 11 TDs, and 13.3 YAC
2011 - 76 receptions, 1,192 yards, 7 TDs, and 15.7 YAC

He was injured in 2012, but came back in 2013 with 56 receptions, 896 yards and 16.0 YAC. The only thing down that year was his receptions and he didn't score. If he had the same amount of receptions, he would have had the same production he had in 2010 and 2011.

The guy simply just wasn't a great receiver. A good one? Sure. But acting like he was going to be anywhere near Bryant or Jones is crazy talk.

And you know this how?

Hakeem Nicks didn't handle himself all that gracefully at the end in NY if memory serves correctly. Plus its not a bad assumption to make that he doesn't love football as much as Dez.... But I can see how my statements are a little unfounded.

And the guy who tore up the Eagles last night had it as well. So maybe he's out 8-10 weeks instead of 4-6, but at this point, worrying about his career being in jeopardy might be a stretch.
