Yuck.

Demarcus Lawrence was injured on July 29th last year and his first game back was on November 2nd.

Basically he was out 12 weeks which was on the high end of the Cowboys original 8-12 week estimate at the time he hurt it.

He was out that long because they put him on PUP. The team has come out since and stated he could have come back earlier if not on PUP. What that means for Dez as a WR? I don't know. Everything I've read on this from many doctors and sources outside the team. Lead me to believe it'll be closer to late November. Probably first game of December before he's completely healed and in good enough shape to return. And that's only if we're in the playoff hunt. If not. They probably just shut him down and not risk re breaking it with nothing to gain.

Yeah but I heard on both the ticket and fan yesterday was that they could have had Lawrence back earlier but put him on the IR to return list which required him to be out 8 weeks into the season. They regretted putting him on that list because of it.

Hakeem Nicks was well on his way to becoming a top 5 WR in the NFL before he suffered the same injury Dez has. I know most people aren't concerned with this injury but after doing more research about it I am more concerned than ever

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 4h4 hours ago
ESPN's Dr. Mark Adickes said 4-6 weeks was an aggressive timeframe, and a more likely timeframe for Dez Bryant's recovery is 8-12 weeks.

When Hakeem Nicks broke fifth metatarsal in his right foot in May 2012, initial timetable from Giants for recovery: 12 weeks. #Dez

Fisher had medical person look at Dez injury and I agree its big concern. Its same bone that Julio Jones broke twice. The time table for Dez return is best case scenario. That being said, we are talking about a fast healer.

Anyone not concerned is kidding themselves. There is a good chance he won't be back this year.

You should take another look at our schedule, paying special attention to how each team looked in week 1. The 4-5 games I thought would be easy wins no longer look easy at all especially without Dez. Every game is going to be a dogfight and its tough to keep winning each week under those circumstances. This looks to be the hardest schedule I can ever remember.

Call me optimistic about our team or concerned about Dez's nfl career beyond this season. It would be nice to get him back but if he relapses or injures another part of his leg because of rushing the process; I doubt it'll help us now or in the long run.

nobody ever said that. It was 4-6.

even 4-6 weeks is way too optimistic considering the cowboys themselves have confirmed it's a jones fracture, the same type of injury kevin durant needed to have operated on 3 times, and ended julio jones' season 2 years ago. 8-12 at the earliest, and even then you're really chancing refracture.

The Cowboys have not confirmed that it is Jones. Both Garrett and Jerry have shown to be ignorant of that injury when asked.

Nicks is not Dez and doesn't have Dez' mentality and fire. Dez will be like TO, recover from a serious injury and pick up were he left off.

Donte Stallworth has broken both of his and he said 5-8 weeks max.

Not that he is any kind of expert, but his opinion is as good as anyone's. Truth is, nobody knows yet. There are big differences between one player and another.

Is a roster spot for 4-5 weeks worth maybe missing 1-3 weeks of healthy Dez?

Injuries are starting to pile up with Gregory and Leary.

I want to be safe with Dez but babying him in the Preseason didn't work either.

There are 3 types of fracture that can occur in the fifth metatarsal, a zone I avulsion fracture, which typically resolves itself and requires no surgery, just a walking boot (6-8 weeks), zone II jones fracture, which has a moderate chance of nonunion due to poor blood flow, or a zone III stress fracture, which takes even longer to heal.

If dez bryant had surgery for the fracture, it's either a zone II or a III fracture. Considering the timetable is only around the 6-8 week variety, I'm guessing (educated) it's a jones fracture.

Julio seems to be the exception rather that the rule. Dez struggled to get separation even when fully healthy. Julio is a much more explosive athelete.

Dez is not as fast as Julio. Julio is not nearly as strong as Dez. Different players stylistically all together.

I agree with you. Personally, I don't like the not being used in preseason approach at all. It leads to sloppy games like we had the other night. My post was only in reference to time frame for recovery. Also, I think we can use what we had before acquiring another receiver effectively enough to win until we get Dez back. Dunbar has already proven to be a very good receiving threat in my opinion.
