The more games we win and Philly loses the longer he can rest.

We could really get a good buffer on them , by beating them this sunday...

I am guessing its going to be a tough, W to get.

Hakeem Nicks was well on his way to becoming a top 5 WR in the NFL before he suffered the same injury Dez has. I know most people aren't concerned with this injury but after doing more research about it I am more concerned than ever

ESPN's Dr. Mark Adickes said 4-6 weeks was an aggressive timeframe, and a more likely timeframe for Dez Bryant's recovery is 8-12 weeks.

When Hakeem Nicks broke fifth metatarsal in his right foot in May 2012, initial timetable from Giants for recovery: 12 weeks. #Dez

Oh, pooh. They addressed it ASAP. The fifth metatarsal bone can be a slow healer depending on the area the fracture occurred. Internal fixation is better these days. Dez should heal between 6-8 weeks.

Yeah, I like him.

Julio had this injury, and look at him. I'm not concerned.

Did you know Julio has already had 3 surgeries on that broken foot in the past 4 years?

Once in 2011, and then twice in 2013 -- the first time when he broke it again and the second time (which put him out for the season) when it didn't heal right they had the operate again.

He just happened to be lucky one of the breaks happened the offseason leading up to his rookie year so it had time to heal before he played.

That's the concern with these kinds of 5th metatarsal injuries -- they seem to re-occur for some of these guys.

I am hoping for a better outcome than that for Dez.

Dez will be back after the bye- the guy has the most competitive mental makeup of anyone in the league- much more than Julio, than Nicks.

Hopefully.

Having said that, thank goodness they aren't going to leave it up to Dez to decide when he comes back.

The prognosis of 4-6 weeks would be typical of a mid-shaft fracture. The avulsion fracture would be a shorter recovery, while the Jones fracture could be quite a bit more (depends on the blood flow) and also has potential for complications. Kevin Durant had to have a bone graft.

Thanks man I appreciate it. Wonder why the organization hasn't come out and say what it actually is then. Or have they and I missed it.

LOL at Nicks being a top 5 receiver

In what league did this happen?

He was on his way in his second and third year. The guy was nasty at nc and he actually reminded me of Irvin a little. He has long arms and regardless of what others on here say he has decent hands. His problem is his work ethic. I still think out of all the options he is the best one because he can catch a contested ball and make a couple of wow plays, something we will miss most from dez

Yuck.

Demarcus Lawrence was injured on July 29th last year and his first game back was on November 2nd.

Basically he was out 12 weeks which was on the high end of the Cowboys original 8-12 week estimate at the time he hurt it.

Funny. I thought about how Bryant might react if he read this thread. And posted. And not politely. lol.

I'm expecting Dez's injury to take about 8 weeks (minimum) before he's able to return. He'll be required to keep his weight off that foot for at least 6 weeks. During that time span, his conditioning will deteriorate and it may well take at least another two weeks for his conditioning to be fairly sufficient for his return to action. That's the diagnosis of a reputable doctor stating as much -- it certainly sounds quite reasonable to me. Foot injuries are especially devastating to WRs, whose livelihoods greatly depend upon their speed and ability to make quick cuts.

Hakeem Nicks in his prime was a top receiver in this league don't let anyone fool you. Top 5 might be excessive but he was top 10. He and Dez were on the same level about 2 or 3 years sfo

That's what I was thinking too. It's not just the bone healing, but the time it will take to get his legs back. It's pretty amazing how much mass you lose in your legs when it's not bearing weight.
