Hamlin would be a mistake

Were Watkins int's where he made great reads and plays? I believe one was at least a tipped ball that he ended up with. I think Watkins will turn into a great FS but I don't think he is ready right now, Hamlin would be much better this year but who knows.

There is absolutely no comparison. Hamlin is far superior against the run.

Anyone who has watched both teams will note that you actually notice Hamlin on the field -- usually for good things.

I wonder what great evil would come from signing the guy to a reasonable short-term contract and letting him slug it out in camp? Worst case, we have a good backup. Best case, our FS position is much improved.

We have 3 very polite DBs right now in Henry, Newman, and Williams. It is a nice group if you want to have a dinner party. But none of them bring any real fire.

that's what I was thinking, he's one of the guys you would love to have on your team, but just watching him as an opposing fan makes you mad, sort of like w/ TO dancing on the star, and then skating on it in the end-zone, but I got over that once he became a Cowboy and have been waiting for him to make fun of opposing team's logos ever since

Speaking of desperate, how about convincing yourself that a 5th rounder fell that far because he's the first player in the history of the NFL draft to be penalized for being so big and fast that NFL personnel departments didn't know what to do with him.

i think hamlin is a solid player who has been a fs his whole career. just because you hit people does'nt mean you are a ss.if you singed him for the price the saints paid last week (4yrs/10 mil) then at the least you have some depth a fs for a change. i think watkins will be fine but what if he goes down? we have nothing else there. cheap insurance
watkins beating him out in camp would be a good thing. thats what you want is competition

I for one am growing a little tired of the "bring in a solid veteran that some other team just cut" approach. Wasn't Tony Parrish supposed to help "solidify" the secondary? Here are our FS "solutions" since Woodson retired:
Tony Dixon & Lynn Scott
Willy Pile & Keith Davis
Pat Watkins, Keith Davis, and Tony Parrish (Late)
Now, it appears we are getting more trash. Now, I haven't given up on Watkins because I was high on him when he was drafted, but I am not at all confident in his deep ball coverage. My stomach always drops when I know he is playing deep center field and the ball is thrown deep. Something always tells me that the ball will get caught for a TD, and last year, it happened nearly every other time. Why can't we finally solve this problem and draft a real coverage safety in round 1 or 2? If you are going to do it, this is the year, as there are plenty of capable guys that can be had in round 1 or 2.

Signing Hamlin might say more about the fact that we're committed to playing Roy nearer the LOS this year, finally. My guess is that this is critical to our plans this year. By getting another starting-quality FS in house, we get protection in case Watkins does not continue to develop or gets hurt early in the season. We can fully commit to a new scheme, and even use Hamlin as a backup to Roy if he misses any time for some reason. I just don't see the downside to adding another starter to the roster.

i thought we need a cover safety, not a run stopper :\. The fact that he has 96 tackles illustrates the reason we dont need him. We need a FS thats gonna knock down passes and get INT's, not someone who's gonna be getting tackles, after giving up long bombs, hell i thought thats wat Roy, and Davis do every game

he is a good cover safety that is also good against the run, you guys just wanna trash someone you know very little about.

I listened to guys on the radio in a city other than dallas rave about how this would lock up our secondary and allow us to draft a WR in the first round.

Why on earth are you assuming he is a run stopper?
he is a hard hitting safety with pretty damn good cover skills.
perfect compliment to our run stopping hard hitting strong safety.

mel kiper on yet another show said he was a pro bowl caliber guy, where are you getting all this run stopper only garbage?

yea he's one of them. but at least with Davis, we're moving him back to his nautral position. with Hamlin we're "hoping" he goes back to his 2005 form. But when you get cracked across your head, u tend lose more than a little blood

how do you not see that?
if he plays like last year he is an upgrade, period.
