Has the board come to a consensus on Joseph Randle?

I liked him and look forward to seeing what he does next year. Didn't fumble, excellent receiver, can't remember thinking he left yards on the field, made some people miss, broke some tackles. I can't remember Dunbar catching my eye his first year either. They should still bring in another guy either late round value or UDFA you never know who will be the next Terrell Davis who was taken in sixth round 196th overall.

nothing wrong with keeping him as #3 and giving him a chance.

on the other hand, it frustrates me to know that we could have had eddie lacy instead of escobar. lacy in round 2 and any tight end in round 5 would have been better than escobar in round 2 and randle in round 5, no?

Have we seen enough to know that he's not going to be a difference maker? The reason I ask is there are several posters in the Draft Zone ready to draft another running back this year. That would make 5 running backs drafted since '08...seems like a lot of resources on that position.

Any team should draft a RB every year because you can never have enough quality (cheap) backs on your roster. Quality backs can be found in every round and Dallas should plan on adding another one this May.

This board? Coming to a consensus on anything? Ha!

That said, I will stick with any evaluation of him by fans should be incomplete. Never saw anything one way or the other. Basically he looked like a guy (a rookie, no less) who had no offseason work, TC, etc., when he finally hit the field.

tell that to josh thomas.

if a player can't play, i'd rather we cut the cord quickly. let's not start another arkin situation.

Josh Thomas started 6 games this season for a very good team.

I saw a flash that he would finish his rookie contract.

This board has never come to a consensus on anything

And if we did, count on Jerry to do the exact opposite as well. He needs credit, so he has to go against the grain, even if it's lunacy type going against the grain, not Steve Jobs or Einstein type going against the gain.

Quick... did Jay Ratliff flash as a rookie? Did Scandrick? Romo? Hatcher?

You saw young, raw players needing to be refined. It took more than one year and it definitely took more than 54 plays. I bet 3/4 of this board 3 years ago swore Hatcher would never be nothing more than a JAG and now he's about to get paid. Players develop and it takes time.

Different positions.....a RB can play right away and be effective where as a QB especially takes time developing.

I don't think that stuff applies to RB's.

I wouldn't invest a draft pick in a RB this year before the 5th round, I think what we've seen around the league is that these guys more or less grow on trees. Hell, I wouldn't draft a RB in the 1st round EVER. It's a complete waste of a valued pick.

I could say the same for WR's as well, actually, with only a few exceptions.

I hear you, but I would have liked to see more of Randall in the last few weeks when the line was gelling. I am sure he will get another year to show something. If there is great value 3rd round or later I could live with a RB in the draft. Skipping Dline AGAIN in the first 2 rounds would be criminal.

I believe Randle is worth another year on the Cowboys roster next season, hard to judge a player who hasn't really seen much of the field during his rookie year. But I would not be oppose to drafting running back (inthe later rounds) just because of the uncertainty of Dunbar from injury and lack of production from Tanner thus far

We drafted Randle as a backup and it appears we were successful in that regard but that's not saying much.

Didn't see enough to preclude another pick on RB. We need a speedy guy back there

I think as a backup that might develop into something more. He needs a bit more muscle and power - a good off-season and he's a better back. Wouldn't shock me if we took a back in the 4th or later though

Way to early to judge a 5th round draft pick.

I agree, he could be another Tashard Choice that never does much but he could be another Dwayne Harris that learns the scheme, adds bulk and improves a ton. He does have the skill set to be a solid backup, he isn't a burner but can get yardage, and can already block and catch outlet passes well.
