We need Spencer?

As a stop-gap? As a savior? As that one player who could get us over the hump and go into the playoffs?

Childs, this defense aint going nowhere. so relax. Let us hope Jerra will play the youngsters and not go back to the same-old, same-old veterans who play an OK game when they are healthy.

Lets just rebuild. Let the chicks fall where they may. Spencer won't help take this defense anywhere.

Speaking strictly for myself, I'm tired of seeing Spencer being retained by this organization indefinitely with no legitimate sign that his recovery is proceeding as hoped it would. Last I heard, he was walking around the VR facility quite gingerly. It seems to me at this point in time that he sould be looking more inclined to be well on his way to showing more encouraging signs of returning to good health. I'd much prefer to see the team staying on course with rebuilding a younger and more productive team than to prolong the presence of its old, battered and endlessly-overpaid vets.

I never understood the Spencer hate

I definitely don't any hate towards him. But I think it's fare to say we expected more out of him and didn't get it.

Good guy, but not even a footnote in cowboys history. He was just another player.

I thought Ware and Spencer would have been "hell off the ends" ... Didn't even come close as a duo.

Yes. I agree. I just don't think he'll accept that type of contract. He seems like he's got a pretty-big ego, he'll likely opt for a 1 year-3.5m prove it deal. I'm not against that either.

If you got injured at work, would you work for free or give back money you previously received?

Dallas took a chance franchising him and lost.

That's not his fault.

If you get injured at work you do not get a full salary in the real world. Workers comp is a small percentage of most peoples salaries. But to answer your question, no I would not give the money back but I would feel a little guilty for taking 10 million dollars to be a cheerleader on the sidelines and might give a hometown discount on the next contract.

I wouldn't mind signing him to league minimum. You realize he probably won't be available for at least the first few games, right?

I never understood the Spencer hate

He freely admitted to quitting on the team during Phillips year, he wasn't the only one but his nonchalant attitude towards it made him look like a punk.

Spencer should feel no guilt about collecting his money for a caeer ending injury. Teams could have cut him in a NY second.

Talking about contracts.....baseball full guarantee contract is the most ridiculous of all.

I don't think anyone here holds it against Spencer for getting paid, rather they're holding it against him if it appears he still wants to get paid.

Ultimately it was the fault of the Cowboys for franchising the player, that being said, the issues with his rehab and numerous setbacks are questionable.

Ego?

I've barely even seen enough interviews to say what he seems like other than bearded.

Seems more quiet than anything.

The only way I'd bring in Spencer is on a one year deal worth almost nothing and out in a lot of incentives so he has a chance to make some more. If nothing else, he could be depth mid season if he's healthy and as we are painfully aware of, can't have too much. He's got talent but that injury is scary. Let him go after a big contract next year, let him bet on himself like Maclin and Melton. The job is wide the heck open so why not.

You hit the nail on the head.

The NFL isn’t the “real world”.

Who do you know gets the guaranteed money up front that NFL players get?

You also said you might give the team a hometown discount.

Well Spencer might just do that.

We’ll see.
