you really want to sign a 30 year old corner to a huge long term contract? why not spend that money on a younger free agent corner?

you really want to go through the struggles of not having a good corner back again?

:banghead:

i already explained it his age is not a good variable to go off of, he essentially has a 27/28 year old body due to his time played.

Thats like saying my 50 year old wife is like a 25 year old because she started having sex at 45.

Lance Frazier, Pete Hunter, Mario Williams......enough said, Dallas will re-sign Newman. Yeah he's 29 but he's only played in the NFL for 5 years!

Newman is not going anywhere. Jerry Jones already made a comment, after a couple of Cowboys games, that he has every intention of resigning Newman.

You're not going to get rid of Newman who is one of the better corners in the NFL just so that you can HOPE that a young guy will come in here and do great.

Besides, even with being 30 at the start of the season, it's not like 30 exactly means he's dead. Lots of guys play till they're 34, 35 and do quite well. I suppose you'd have been pushing Darrel Green out the door, and Deion as well, the moment they hit 30?

Note, as well, that I'm not trying to say Newman is as good as either of those two, so before you guys get all in a furious frenzy over that, all I'm saying is that he's a very good player and you don't make your decisions entirely based on age. If he was 33 or 34 and you were looking at having to resign him then maybe you make a move to get younger. But not when he's only going to have just turned 30 by the time the year starts.

Not to mention there is NOT a CB in this draft, no matter who you got, who will play better than Newman.

Everyone is so high on Plax, and what he does, tell me what he did to Dallas in the two games Newman played in?

I'll tell you. In New York his line was something like 4 catches for 27 yards and in the playoff game it was 1 catch for 5 yards.

1! Now the one game the Giants played Dallas without him...several catches for like 180 yards and 3 TDs.

What did he do to Harris, that so many morons are so high on against GB? He lit him up for a bunch of catches and yards.

So, please, take you're "We're getting Newman out of here" talk and go back to the playground.

If anyone really thinks Jerry will pass on Felix Jones or even if possibly move up to get McFadden, then they need to get a doctor.

It will never happen that he passes on both. Yes, maybe we do need two CBs in the 1st but it will not happen.

Would Chris Johnson RB East Carolina be a good pickup in round 2. Absolutely but Jerry will never pass on the chance to get one of the Arkansas boys.

We fans may think this or this is right, but in the end it is all what Jerry wants to do and nothing, absolutely nothing, else matters.

Well in that case then how come so many people seem to think he's going to let Hamlin get out of Dallas? He's an Arkansas boy as well.

I really don't think Jerry is going to give up the farm for DMac just cause he's an Arkansas guy and I don't see him picking up Felix, unless the guy happens to fall into his lap at maybe 28, just because he played at Arkansas.

A complimentary back to Barber Can be found at later rounds. Giants got Bradshaw in the 7th. Greenbay has a bunch of free agents. A wide reciever rarely Has a impact their first two years. I think two CB's will be drafted in the first round. 1st reason Hamlin won't be resigned. I want him back but his price will be too high. 2nd Newman won't be resigned next year and Henry should be a FS.

So, per your thoughts...

Henry is signed to a contract and is moderately costly.
Newman will need to be re-upped at a huge price.
Williams is very expensive.
Hamlin is on our radar, which means a pretty pricey raise.

And you think they will draft 2 first round corners?

There will be some very disappointed people on this subject.

Dallas is mounting an offensive upgrade and not cornerbacks. Most fans want corners. But Jerry will not spend that kind of cash on the DBs when he has so much money invested at this point.

I suspect Dallas will poor boy this and get the kid from San Diego as a DB, who Phillips has a history with.

Then draft in later rounds for DBs.

The screams from messageboards will be long and loud. But I just do not believe they will invest heavily on this position.

I can see us using one of the 1st rounder on CB if the value is there and I think it is over WR. But I agree, Jerry and Co. will go Offense.

What do you think of Felix Jones? If I were a gambler that's the guy I think we'll take at 22.

romo was a FA and brady a 7th round pick. so would it also be stupid to draft a QB in the 1st?

you take players according to value and need and stop all the positioning of positions.

I see what you're trying to say here (even if you did a lousy job of conveying it), but I think you've got it wrong on a few points.

I can certainly see 1 cornerback taken in the 1st round - most likely pick #22. But I don't see them taking 2 that early.

And I think your current player assessment is just plain wrong.

1) Hamlin came in and helped stabilize the free safety position. I think the team will make every effort to re-sign him.

2) If there's a corner who needs to worry about his future in Dallas, it's Anthony Henry, not Newman. He can't stay healthy playing corner, why would anyone think he could at the more physical safety position?

The theory about signing a younger cornerback, may be ruthless, but it may have merit. If Newman stubbornly wants to be paid top cornerback money, the team might look to get younger at the position. But does it make more sense to give top corner money to Samuel or Nnamdi? One thing to consider is that the Cowboys know Newman a lot better than they know any of the others.

I think the team drafts a 1st round corner in preparation of Henry's departure in '09.

And I think they re-sign Hamlin with the intent to give him Roy Williams' salary slot in '09 as well.

I would dearly love to get Mcfadden. But that is almost 100% out of the question.

I do like Jones a great deal. I am being swayed by some things I have read on Ray Rice, as well.

If it were me, I would do this.

Sign Barber!!!!!!!!!!!

FA

Bernard Berrian - this guy has the speed. He can make the circus catch. You have to accept he will drop one in his hands occassionally. But this is the outside speed this team needs across from T.O. And simply put, this moves Crayton where he belongs. #3.

Nnamdi Asomugha - I believe this is money best spent. I would love to have Trufant, but that guy will cost too much. This maybe moves Henry to safety if we can't fit Hamlin in.

Draft

22 - Felix Jones - if he is here I would not hesitate. The guy can bring speed and his returns will be something we don't see much around here.

If I got the two free agents and signed Barber, I would maybe consider trading out of the first. (Write this down. I seldom ever see any wisdom in this)

If we could come away with multiple seconds and thirds, I would be looking for WR, NT and CB's on the first day.

You say we won't take a CB in the 1st because of the cost and then you say we'll take one in FA? Of Asomugha's caliber? I'd put money on Asomugha costing more than any CB taken at 22 or 28 in this draft. I'd put money on us taking at least 1 CB in the first.
