I may get blasted for this, but does anybody else find it absurd that people with real jobs are getting laid off while athletes are making millions of dollars playing a kids game?

But honestly you're right.

It's pretty screwed up that the 'entertainers' make so much money.

If someone blasts you for your observation, they should be ashamed of themselves.

And yes, it's absurd.

I find it absurd that "entertainers" in general tell us "normal" people how to live, cut back on this, use less of that, save the planet, pay more taxes when they are far more guilty of excessive living.

step 1~ dont spend any money or time on entertainment.

step 2- wait for everyone else to do same

pay will come down for them

otherwise - communism may not be far off

I find it absurd that people would support something they complain about, but that's just me.

It is kind of offensive in a way, but its a free market and that is what the market is allowing.

Companies arent making a profit so they are laying off. These athletes are still making money for the league whether they tell you or not, and therefore, they get their money. If the Cowboys are worth a billion dollars why cant they sign a player to 10 million dollars a year? If a company is losing money they have to do something. Thats the difference. All these teams are worth 500 million plus.

I can't blame sports for taking advantage of the marketplace, but it says a lot about what Americans value.

What we should do is devote our attention (money) to the "industries" that really need it, but where's the fun in that? We like to be entertained and sports/Hollywood reap the benefits of that.

Existence is absurd, Sartre once intimated. One day that bubble will burst also.

Not any more absurd than people still watching them go play and stuff.

Kind like the Skins firing all their front office staff and then spending like a drunken sailor in free agency.

Just saying.

Isnt it kind of ironic...people get laid off form their jobs because of the economy, and some of them turn to one thing thats been a constant source of happiness for them in life...watching football. Yet in these troubled and desperate times of their life where lack of money has caused so many woes their source of comfort and stability is a bunch of people making millions more than they ever need and more than likely the economic downturn which has possibly ruined these peoples lives is one of the last things on the football players minds................maybe its just me just thought it to be funny

Hahaha...

A football fan complaining about why football players make so much money... only at CowboysZone.

(Easy answer: it's because of fans, like you. Us fans are the core source of the NFL's revenue. And if the NFL didn't generate revenue, the players wouldn't make squat.)

I swear, it's like a Neo-**** skinhead complaining about there being too much racism in the world...

ITs BS that the skins were laying off people. Danny Boy is still making a nice profit (or was until FA). I notice Jerruh is NOT laying anyone off.

Why is it BS? Maybe he doesn't need those people? His aim is to make $, not a charity whose goal is to provide unnecessary jobs.

Well, the NBA is having to borrow $175 million to help some teams out, so obviously not all of sports is doing well. You can't get too upset with athletes signing the contracts they do because apparently the teams can pay out those contracts. Now, if the Commanders go to Congress asking for a bailout, then be upset. But what probably gets me the most upset is Manny Ramirez turning down offer after offer after offer. But that's a little off topic.
