I would be glad to sign Shultz to a 4 or 5 year contract for what he is worth ...... Between 5 and 7 mill a year depending on the market.
The market is way above that. Lesser TE's have already signed for $10-12 million/year.

That's a heckuva stat and gives at least some insight to Shultz' value to Dak.
Best QBR combo of ANY QB to WR/TE in all of the NFL.

Maybe the kid does deserve a new deal.

ESPN seems to think that getting Shultz off the tag and signing him to a deal close to Njoku (4 yrs at 56.7mil) would be a solid move.

Thoughts?
Schultz is as valuable as Zeke, to Dak.
Schultz is dump off dependable, and Zeke can pick up the blitz.
Thats the cap spent to keep radio in the bubble.

And his blocking is why we drafted him. Supposedly a very good blocker.

+1 ......fans seem to forget this. He actually developed into a complete TE. Just me, I think he can be a 75-80 catch TE if given the opportunity.

For whatever this is worth.....
His standard 2022 fantasy football projection is about 75-80 catches for 775-850 yards, 6-8 TDs.

His standard 2022 fantasy football projection is about 75-80 catches for 800-850 yards, 7-8 TDs.

Everything is in place for it...No AC, Gallup gonna miss some games and he is already trusted by the QB....Maybe he goes off and we have a great TE or trade piece.

On third and 10 Dak LOVES firing the ball to Schultz on a 3 yard out pattern. It's his go-to safety blanket regardless of down, distance or game time. Of course Shultz had great numbers. Why the hell do you think Amari left?
A lot of that is true except for the part about Amari "leaving".
Amari didn't leave, he was gotten rid of in a salary dump.

Ahhh the weekly Schultz thread. Great.

I'll say it again, and the same people are gonna like it and not like it, but Schultz' catch stats are much more about our QBs play than his own.

OK, will you Dakaters finally back off? How much more do you need to see? Even Smith said Prescott is top 10 and he hates the Cowboys.

Seriously, with Cooper, Wilson, Jarwin and Turner leaving and Gallup recovering, no way they were letting the QB's 2nd favorite target walk. This was a little less than 11M, a bargain in tags and they weren't going snug against the cap anyway, they had it to spend.

This was a good move.

But does that matter? Things get dicey out there, he will need a friendly face to throw to.

Who doesn't have some doubts about Prescott's ability to connect with these other receivers after the season they traded for Cooper? He doesn't have a lot of familiar faces out there and you can bet the DC's are not going to let Lamb beat them. We don't even know if he scares them.

They were never even considering letting Schultz walk.

Really? According to this board Dak can be replaced by Baker and Shultz can be replaced by a 4th round 5 string tight end from Wisconsin.

Well I understand why they tagged him for now, but he isnt irreplaceable. Top end money should not be spent on him long term. He doesn't do anything that many other players can't.

He isnt terrible, but he hurts the run game, which I think is essential to this QB having success.

So, paying him big money long term works directly against what I think needs to be fixed about this offense.

It was a good move for this year only. Don't need to be paying a TE that kind of money next year unless Zeke is gone.

Didn't say anything about him long term, just for this season to get past the loss of 3 WR's and a TE. If they can't get a decent long term deal done, I look for them to try and do what they did with Schultz with Ferguson.

They just don't have a lot of options this season with Lamb at 1, Washington at 2 and maybe Tolbert at 3 until Gallup gets back. Washington and Tolbert showing up takes some of the lean on the TE away.

Schultz isn't a great run blocker but the major problem in the run game was at LG, C and RT and leaning on a hampered Elliott and not using Pollard more. Every time I saw them run, Pollard looked like the better back and had more zip.

It wasn't about keeping Schultz as much as keeping the QB happy. Paying him 40M, 11M to another to accomplish that is not bad. Besides that, they got rid of their 20M WR so the pot for all receivers is manageable.

Then why is the franchise tag at 10 mil?
Because it's an average at the time of the tag.

David Njoku recently signed a contract that averages $13.7 million/year

Jonnu Smith's contract averages $12.5 million/year

This is where the market is going. Imagine what the top guys (Kittle/Kelce) would get if negotiating today. It might be $18 million/year

Then why is Schultz averaging 10 yards a completion aka a first down per completion?
