I think he's a nice player .. but he benefited from being maybe the 5th or 6th guy the defense was worried about last season. This year he might move up to 4th or 5th. In either case you don't pay top dollar for a guy in that situation. He's the equivalent of that guy on the basketball court that the other team doesn't even bother to guard most of the time until he hits a couple of wide open threes. Count me as a no..

I've noticed the past 2 seasons how Schultz has become Dak's most go to target. Reminds me of Romo's bond with Witten. It drives me nuts hearing so many on here so easily want to get rid of Schultz. Are you kidding me? Schultz is one, if not the one, of the biggest targets for Dak. I agree we shouldn't overpay for a TE, but I say if the Cowboys and Schultz could agree to between a $10 - $12 mil/year (for 3-4 years) contract, that would be good for now. That gives rookie TE Jake Ferguson time to grow, along with any other backup TE.

No. Too much money. I just do not think he is an exceptional player. I cannot think of one aspect of is game that I think is exception. He is not a blocker. Not a deep threat. He is an outlet for Dak. I find it hard to believe the Cowboys cannot find another TE to play that role. But I would not pay his $15 million per year or more.

To be honest, your QBR or Rating to your short guy should be off the charts. Low risk throws. I'd bet that TEs litter the top of that list whatever it is.

Sure but the point of the post was that Prescott to Schultz was THE TOP of the list. That's a notable achievement.. but I still think he was the beneficiary of teams worrying about Coop, Lamb, Gallup, Zeke and Pollard before they thought about him.

I'd rather see him play on the tag. If his blocking is as bad as it was last year, then we need to keep looking. Schultz is a fine receiver, but he's not dynamic enough as a receiver to be a poor blocker. Players like Kelce, Andrews and Pitts can get away with it, not Schultz.

I'm in the camp that leans away from giving Shultz big money. But this stat surprised me some.

At that kind of price, we could franchise him *again* and still come out ahead on a yearly cost basis.

My God!!! Its almost word for word my description of what Shultz does well to get open. When it comes to understanding the game, you are the mouse and I am the elephant.

Imagine how good he'd be if he had a QB that could see him running wide open on drag routes like half the time or was actually half-way decent throwing against zone coverages, instead of just check-down 3rd and outs or the occasional go-route from the slot as the first option on man coverage off of play action...

BTW, 6 of his 8 TDs last year all occurred against NFC East opponents, 4 of them in the last 3 meaningless games when those teams were sucking it up and playing their scrubs and Dak was padding stats. Outside of that he got 1 TD against the Raiders and 1 against the Panthers.

No, we paid Zeke, because he was the center piece of the offense. Paying for stats is what got Dak the contract, which included an absurd "no-trade" clause. And if Dak are going to argue Checkdown Charlie supposedly earned his new contract off his first couple of seasons, though he was laughing stock without Amari, when Smith went down and when Zeke was suspended, then Zeke was the very example par excellent of a player earning a new contract off what he did in his 'underpaid' rookie contract.

It confuses me seeing posters in this thread that I know have been around since Witten's first years, and have somehow forgotten Witten was not a good blocker for the first four years or so.

Also that Witten, the high watermark for some, was a penalty machine in his later years with movement before the ball was snapped.

Schultz is the outlet EVERY QB in the league has, or should have when the primary receivers are covered.

If you don't see that and acknowledge it, I have to ask if you are one of the hosts on The View?

Most players can be replaced. Not sure what that has to do with anything. Lamb and Shultz were two big reasons we were able to move on from the 22 million dollar anchor of Coopers contract.

The kid was a 4th round pick and turned out to be a good one. Not sure the issue Cowboys fans have with the guy. To me he is a success story.

It would be great to have Ferguson come on this year and be able to move on from Shultz after this season. It would be better to get Shultz for a reasonable price tied up the next few years.

Honestly, this team needs to stop trying to be a run first offense with Zeke. He isnt good enough and when you pay a QB 40 million it better be because you think you can feature him and the passing game in your offense.

major factor is Dak preferred the underneath easy one as he doesn’t throw to WRs he dont see with visible separation. Schultz was a benefactor of having Amari, Ceedee, Wilson out there and to give credit Schutz he could shed LBs and get open underneath.
