Hill vs Thornhill

One play? Whatever. I am sure Jeff Heath enjoys your support.
I'm not throwing one player that is the last line of defense under the bus, when the front seven allowed nearly 300 yards rushing. Heath ain't elite, but that's just delusional.

I thought Thornhill was the better player, but I'm not complaining. Besides their own personal rankings, I understand why they went Hill. They know why they lost to the Rams. The D-Line was an open gate all day long, and it would happen again at some point in the playoffs if they didn't fix it.

They clearly value a stout D-Line over upgrading their safeties. Safeties are a dime a dozen because of today's fantasy football rules in the NFL. Still, when you get a stud back there, boy does it make a difference. That's what we've been hoping for, and hopefully eventually they find one. But clearly they're not interested in using a high pick on one unless they're undoubtedly in love with them. Like it or not, that appears to be the case.

Well said. At some point the safety spot will have to be addressed, but football games are won and lost up front; on both sides of the ball.

I just hope they hit on Trysten Hill.

I guess you can add Will harris from BC. That's who they were hoping would fall to 90. He or Justin Layne. If the rumors are true.

Perhaps but this thread is really about second rounders...

I have no issue with the pick because a 3 Tech DT can impact the game more than a safety...

Pollard vs Isaiah Johnson will also be a holdover debate from this draft.

yes it will...Not sure who else would have taken Pollard between pick 129-135. I think we got cute for some reason....or they had some intel saying other wise...Patriots? They just took Damien Harris..Washington took Love...Seattle....maybe

Dallas Cowboys: Troy Pollard, RB (Memphis)
Oakland Raiders (from Indianapolis): Isaiah Johnson, CB (Houston)
Los Angeles Chargers: Drue Tranquill, LB (Notre Dame)
Washington Commanders (from Kansas City via Buffalo): Wes Martin, G (Indiana)
Seattle Seahawks (from New Orleans via New York Giants): Ugo Amadi, S (Oregon)
New England Patriots (from Los Angeles Rams): Jarrett Stidham, QB (Auburn)
Los Angeles Rams (from New England): Greg Gaines, DT (Washington)
Atlanta Falcons (from Indianapolis via Oakland) (compensatory): John Cominsky, DE (Charleston)
Cincinnati Bengals (from Dallas) (compensatory): Michael Jordan, OL (Ohio State)

While LVE has been nothing, but exceptional Ridley has been no scrub. Our safety play has cost us plenty of games and because of personal interaction amongst players they ingore the total liability there kust because they feed into the RKG system.

The fastest way to QB is a penetrating DT. Hill very well could be the best that we have had since Ratliff, and has the potential to be absolutely incredible. Hill inside, Lawrence outside are the 2 most important positions in this defense. Put Jaylon and LVE behind them and you got something. I am surprised how many people on this board are complaining about this pick.
People are not complaining because they picked a DT. They are complaining because the majority of scouting services available to the public had Hill rated later than the second round. If you believe reports, even the Cowboys had Hill rated behind Connor McGovern.

It's possible it'll work out like the Frederick pick. It's possible it'll be a bust like the Taco pick. But the draft just happened. People want to talk about it. If you wanted to wait 3 years to see how these guys careers play out, there wouldn't be much discussion on forums like these.

That's how I feel. They barely got by Seattle and LA just walked all over us. In the playoffs and against better teams and coaching, that can't happen and have the offense bail you out.

I think the frustration is not that they picked Hill, but that they could of had him AND Thornhill both if they had waited it out a bit longer on Hill to select him. Small school, character questions, he would have likely fallen into the 4th/5th round where he was projected. Then we could be talking about Thornhill, McGovern, Hill and Pollard and would have met more needs and drafted where players were slotted to go.
Small school its div 1 school that did win a national title. I see the allure of Thornhill but he had his warts and some of them coincide with Heath's. I also see safety as bigger gamble position lower in the draft.

I trust McClay’s opinion over anyone on this forum. He’s focused 365 days on talent evaluation. That is all.....

They need DT as well as safety. I'm fine with the pick. I've been clamoring for a mammoth DT early for a long time, so I hope Hill lives up to the billing.

This year’s draft reminds me of the 2013 draft where they overreacted Frederick and everybody was mad they didn’t get more value in the trade down with SF that got us Terrence Williams. It’s hard to be enthusiastic when you feel like they reached in the 2nd and 4th rounds.

That said, if the picks can play, it won’t matter a year from now. I’m not as hopeful as I was about last years’ class, but I’m content to wait. If Hill really gets inside pressure, we got a lot better on defense this weekend.

And if I remember correctly, most people wanted a safety at that spot also. I believe Eric Reid.
