Nothing like old school Triple 6. One of the first acts I started listening to.

Bone Thugs, Cash Money, No Limit and Three Six was what I started out on.

Sounds like we have a similar upbringing in terms of initial exposure;):D.Six was "it" in my 90's. Cash and No Limit later but definitely influenced by them as well. Brought southern rap out of the woods.

Yep. I'm 30 so started listening to rap around 97. E 1999 Eternal was really the first rap album I heard. Unless you count Vanilla Ice and Mc Hammer in 91 and 92.

In middle school, Ghetto D was the album. One person had a copy and we all took turns listening. I discovered Cash Money a little later on. They had no signed to Universal yet and were still local. Heard Back That A** Up and it was on from there for digging into their discog.

Got into Three Six my freshman year with When The Smoke Clears.

VERY similar I see:D. I'm 30 as well. Started getting schooled on the older gangster stuff after initially being mainly exposed to Biggie, Pac, Mobb Deep and Outkast (NWA just cus were so big). They put the "hard stuff" on for me in the ktichen we were working and it was all 36, Scarface, Bone, No Limit/Cash Money and UG Memphis stuff. Got schooled a little too early (looking back) bc couldn't embrace the non-violent genre as much until I got older/matured. Ghetto D album was definitely mixed into that too:D;) along with C-Murder mainly.Side note: people would be surprised how "simple" Lil Wayne s flow was before he made it big. Love(d) 36 until they went the Chickenhead/Poppin Collar route and went pop, etc. Nice reminiscing w/ya:D

Here's some southern rap, but it's farther down than Memphis. All the way down to Houston for this one, my part of the sticks, lol. I don't know how popular this song was up north, but down here in our neck of the woods, it was awesome. And still is today. Lil Troy back in '98. Also ft. Fat Pat and his big brother HAWK (RIP to both of them:(), among a few others. Great one. Yall might remember.....

Tight track Kim! Love me some Houston too bc of UGK, Devin the Dude, and Scarface mainly but also know it is the birthplace of the DJ Screw movement as well. Glorified codeine laced syrup (lean); RIP Pimp C. You are correct in that Fat Pat and Lil Troy weren't as big up North but I became more aware of their stuff as I got into the HOU scene and UG.

Oh, yeah, the Purple Drank, the Sizzurp. Bad stuff. I'm sure it feels great, but dang, it can be deadly because it feels so great, know what I mean?? And yes, Pimp C had too good a time one night on it. So very sad indeed. If we could just have nights like that back, you know, and just do it over, we would do it differently. That is what gets me so much, so hard. If we could just have a do-over, just this once, we would still be alright. :(

But here is another great Houston song. DJ DMD with Fat Pat again, and Lil Keke. Heck, this song is so good, even ZZ Top did a cover of it. Now THAT'S what I call making a damn good song. These young men should be proud. :)

Here's some more from Houston. I absolutely love this first one. One of my favorite songs. My son suggested the second one. But they do mention that drink in this one, "this drink got me leanin'...." These young boys need to be learnin', instead of leanin'. But that is the mom coming out in me. lol. The song is good, no doubt. But I prefer Like A Boss.:)
