Yeah, the real issue is that Hochuli didn't actually see the play, but was busy signaling and blowing the whistle instead of letting a few seconds pass. On one replay you can see him in the background, where he couldn't really see the play that well, as the QB's body shielded the view of the hit. But boy he jumped right in and made a call! How many other times has he made a call he didn't see?
He quick whistled it, when he didn't have the definitive view and ended up giving the game away; possibly seriously affecting the playoff positioning. Now according to the rules, he couldn't fix it. Which means you have to be real careful about that quick whistle. He's a major chump this weekend.
What will be interesting is seeing if the NFL and the lapdog sportscasters try to sweep this under the rug, or man up and deal with a screw up openly.
Though afterwards, before the touchdown and two point conversion, SD could have made the whole thing moot by summoning up some decent defense for a play or two.
