Im only a homer when im watching boys games. Every penalty called against us is BS to me. Them I calm down.

I think im fair when evaluating other teams players. For example, I was never down on Eli Manning jsut bc hes a Giant, I jsut didnt see anything special about him. And from the little Ive seen from Jason Cambell, I think he is going to be solid.

I'm a homer to a certain point. Every year I pick them to go to the Super Bowl, and that won't change this year. I always think we're going to be 12 and 4 or something like that, I can't help it, I grew up in the Landry days when we rarely lost.

I give every player and coach the benifit of the doubt, but if I continue to see the same crap over and over and over by a player or coach, they will be on my bad side, and I will not let off until they are gone.

Yeah and no.

I try not to be....and I can usually do it when evaluating other teams' players.

But when I look at our team and see that we have "elite" players at their position, such as Newman, Williams, Ware, Owens, Romo (who played like it), Witten, etc.......and look at the fact that we went 9-7.....I come to the conclusion I am overrating some of our players. I have to be. Because if I see so many "underrated" and "elite players" there is no reason to go 9-7 in our division.

So yeah, I guess I am a homer at times.

And since I think we might be able to win a playoff game this year, then yeah, I am definetely being a homer....

I would like to think we are all homers, just in varying degrees. After all we are fans of the team (well most of us).

However I also think that many are not on the extreme side of homerism.

With that said I predict we go 16-0 with the #1 offense and #1 Defense this season before going into the playoffs and in the playoffs/superbowl our offense will average 28 points per game and our defense will only give up 3 points per game.

:p: ;)

My advice to you is to start drinking heavily. :D

Sure wish I could take that advice, but I can't...

It's still excellent advice for most people, and yes, I recognize the line...

My favorite was "we're willing to trade looks for a certain, morally casual attitude"...

I like to think of myself as realistically-optimistic. I believe that we can go all the way if everything falls into place and everyone stays healthy.

Now the reality is that if Romo goes down we are screwed as I have no confidence in Brad Johnson as a starter. If we suffered a couple of injuries at other starter positions: Ware, Adams, Terry Glenn, Ferguson, etc. then we could also be screwed.

I do believe we have the most talent of any team in the NFC across the board with New Orleans having a better offense and the Bears having a better defense. Only the Panthers come close to us across the board IMO and we have beaten them the last several times we have played them (except in the playoffs a few years ago) because we match up well with them so I have no worries there.

The other big area that is a question is coaching. If the coaching staff performs like we all hope they will then we should do well, if not then we could suck. Again, my belief is that they will do well. I am excited about the changes on both sides of the ball with Phillips and Garrett running the show.

I don't know what to expect from Garrett in particular but I am hoping for some innovation, balance, and the ability to exploit weaknesses and adjust to what the other team is doing, something that Parcells & Co. were weak at because they tended to stick with the gameplan no matter what and rarely seemed to exploit weaknesses.

Phillips is less of a question mark as he has proven to be an excellent DC everywhere he has been and even though he is the HC here he will have a lot of oversight of the defense, leaving the offense to Garrett and Sparano.

I can easily see us going 12-4, winning the division and making it to the SB. Whether we can beat the Patriots, who I expect to win the AFC, or not is another matter but I do believe that we are the best team in the NFC. Now we just have to play like it.

I am sure that this has probably been discussed before, but I haven’t seen it so I wanted to raise the topic again.

While everyone can be a homer to some extent, I am constantly amazed at the amount of abject homerism displayed by fans of all NFL clubs. I love the Dallas Cowboys, I have since I was 7, I will always be a fan. I expect my team to do well every year, but I try to remain objective at the same time. I have found that the majority of this board falls into that category, which is probably why I like it here so much. Not that I agree with everything that is said, in fact I disagree with some of you almost all the time, but I just don’t see the blatant homerism on this board that I see on some of the others.

For example, if you go over to extremeskins they have a thread where they are forecasting their wins and losses for 07. Most of the guesses have come in the 12-4 range. While I think it is great to back your team, I just can’t for the life of me see how anyone, homer or not could expect that team to go from 5-11 to 12-4. They point to injuries and the like, but good lord, no pass rush last year, and adding 27 DB’s in the off season isn’t going to address that.

You can find evidence of that on every message board of every team around the league, well perhaps not the lions, those guys are pissed and they will probably stay that way. I see it here as well but I see the opposite more frequently. A lot of people are almost anti-homerisitic for the sake of not being a homer. Sometimes, I wonder if they are fans at all, or maybe they are just sour about life in general and always expect the worst. I dunno.

I guess my question is this:

Do you consider yourself a homer?

I do at times, but I think I am realistic enough to be objective. I am curious as to how the rest of you feel about it.

Jon

I consider myself a homer in some regards but I also try and see the reality of the situations regarding the team and players

I have ever present hope for the best, but if you ask me to make predictions, I'm usually a realist about that.

The Commanders fans take the cake. I don't see that level of homerism with the Cowboys here. In all seriousness, the idiot Commanders fan actually argue that the team might go to the Super Bowl this year based on the fact that (1) they were 5-11 last year and (2) in the past, one 5-11 team ended up going to the Super Bowl the next year. So since it happened once in the past, it certainly will happen to the Skins this year. They actually think that their team should be a favorite. It boggles the mind. Their defense went from 5 to 9 to 31, they didn't fix the d-line, but their fans are predicting a top 5 defense again. Wha? Serious Question: what would the Commanders have to do in a season that would preclude their fans from believing they are Super Bowl bound the following off-season?

The Cowboys might struggle some, but they should be competitive. I hope everything clicks, but it's a long shot. If I were a Commanders fan, I would be saying "everything is in place, we are definitely Super Bowl bound."

If I was a homer,.. Well, if I was a homer, I'd drizzle my droozle all over Terry Glenn and Julius Jones like most around here do. I don't. :) Though on the case of Terry Glenn, I'm not sure if it's homerism or a brigade of Parcells lackies still held over.. Of course what do I know? Michael Irvin was called a "homer" for ripping on the quality of that one player who considers himself a #1 WR but is NOT, also. His name is Terry Glenn, and me and the Playmaker do not think he's all that! We're homers and yall are cheating on the Star! Make us sick, call yourselves Cowboy fans. Pfft.

If being optimistic and focusing on the positives about my team instead of dwelling on the negatives makes me a homer.... then you're damn right I'm a homer!

Do you consider yourself a homer?

Mmmmmmmmmm.....beeeeer

Mmmmmmmmmm.....donuts....choooooocolate donuts

I always have high expectations but try to remain realistic. I always expect a winning season, growing up watching an NFL record 20 straight winning seasons will do that to you. Then, I got to raise my son on three Super Bowls in four years, and he's now a staunch Cowboy fan like his dad.

I always expect greatness from our beloved Cowboys because it's what I'm used to. Realistically I know that's not always gonna happen. Having come from the dismal 5-11 seasons and seeing the talent added to this team over the last 3-4 years I really thought last year was going to be our break out season. It didn't happen. This year I do expect it to happen. I expect no less than a deep run in the playoffs. SuperBowl? It's a possibility but not counting on it.

If that makes me a homer, then yeah....count me in! ;)
