How are we feeling about our starting 5 OL?

I'm trying to figure out what happened to Edoga. He was playing at LT, got injured. Then, came back later and played guard.
Don't think he was hurt too badly, but we had Guyton to sub in for him even though he's got some injuries he's working through. Then when Bass got hurt, we had no other interior backups to put in, so Edoga went back out.

To see these guys get movement, and push people off the ball, it looked great!!! It's been looking great for the last few weeks, grant it some will say we're playing against bad defenses, I get that. The object is to get movement on the guy in front of you and to create lanes/sustain blocks. These guys have been looking really good, I'm no trying to anoint them and put them all in Canton. There's been better play coming from these guys, and it should be praised!! Please give your thoughts
Looks like having brawlers at guard is the route to go, they don't have to be elite, just willing to brawl. Need a new tackle though, Steele just ain't the guy,,, he could be a good backup though.

Overpaid overhyped bums on way out. Young hungry dudes on their way in. Things are looking up at least. I am sure they will screw it all up and pay Tyler Smith to play slightly above average LG like he is the worlds greatest LT.
His 1st year and changed from RT to LT. Dang, give his 2 more years to adjust.

I wouldn't mind us switching him back to RT and trading Steele. I think we could work out LT between Smith and Richards. If we had to kick Smith out there, I feel pretty good about being able to find three capable interior linemen among Bass, Beebe, Hoffman and Richards.

If we're going to go young on the OL next year might as well go all the way. If we trade or cut Steele before March 16, we save $5 million against the cap. I'm not sure Steele is playing well enough, or enough above the next man up, for that.

Guyton will be fine. He's shown starting-level ability, just not with consistency. As one poster pointed out, his rookie season actually looks a lot like Tyler Smith's, sort of an up-and-down penalty machine. OTs often put it together in year 2, and I think that's within reach for Guyton.

The interior is kind of a motley crew, but they're playing downright good football. And I think Asim Richards is a starting-caliber player, or at least he's done enough to deserve a chance to start.

I would strongly disagree. Guyton has not shown to be anywhere close to Tyler Smiths rookie season. Smith had 15 penalties over 1274 snaps. Guyton has 16 in just 604 snaps. Taking penalties out of the equation Smith was a legitimate starting T in this league from day 1. Guyton has flashed a little bit, but I'm not sure he has been much better overall than a low end backup player.

Its only year 1 so the book is far from closed on Guyton, but comparing him to Tyler Smiths rookie season is an insult to Tyler Smith.

He is much much better than that. Drafting him was always about 2025 and beyond.

A full off season will do wonders for him
An offseason may help, I dont doubt that he needs to get stronger to play in this league, but if you think Guyton has been a starting caliber LT this year you're expectations are extremely low. Guyton has age and size on his side, but I can't think of a single aspect of his game that I would even say has been even average this season.

Let Zack go. Stay with the young kids. Hope they figure things out so we can use or draft picks, less a 4th, on some other needs. Draft promising OL backups in late rounds.

This unit just needs snaps together, and they can be serviceable.

Not sold on Steele and Guyton but feel good about the inside. Trial by fire for Guyton hopefully will provide better results next year.

Hoffman looks to be a player. Bass looks to be a player. We know Smith is All Pro.

Hoffman and Bass IMO are the guys you keep unless a BPA comes up in the draft.

For anyone not paying attention, I’m more excited about Guyton than ever.
He will improve his pass blocking, and he needs to improve that and some of the details penalties, but DUDE, have you watched him run blocking?! He is a beast!

Yep, I hear ya man. I'm still in the camp of Tyler being the plan to replace Tyron in the first place.
Left tackles are way harder to find than guards. Tyler is the best LT on this team.
They should make the appropriate adjustments with the rest of the guards.

Guyton was always picked higher based off potential and intangible.

If you go back, every scouting report stated he was a developmental prospect. Limited reps at RT and we asked him to play LT without a ton of reps. I would love to cut Steele and shift Guyton to RT.

I would be comfortable starting next season with Smith - Bass - Beebe - Hoffman - Guyton. They seem to gel well and the interior + Tyler has that nasty to them.
