How are we feeling about our starting 5 OL?

That is true that some top Tackles moved inside as they aged. My Point was when was a Player who was currently ALL PRO at one position moved to another to stay; not just because of Injury or temporary need. We had Martin play RT because of NEED but he was soon BACK at Guard.
YOU want to move an ALL PRO Guard to LT where he simply is not as good.
That will not happen.
LA was a very fine Tackle but he was the all time Great at Guard which was where he was moved to because that was his BEST position. Tyler Smith MIGHT make a fine LT; but he will never be as good there as he is at Guard. So that is where he will remain. You put your players in the position that they are BEST at.
Zach Martin. My favorite player I wanted to draft him when others wanted defense. I followed his career and Notre Dame. He played every single position on the offensive line except center. Never missed the game.

To see these guys get movement, and push people off the ball, it looked great!!! It's been looking great for the last few weeks, grant it some will say we're playing against bad defenses, I get that. The object is to get movement on the guy in front of you and to create lanes/sustain blocks. These guys have been looking really good, I'm no trying to anoint them and put them all in Canton. There's been better play coming from these guys, and it should be praised!! Please give your thoughts
If everybody is healthy, our O line is average. And we don't appear to have capable depth.

Never under estimate the genius of GM Jethro.

Guyton will be the starting LT, I have no question about that.
Smith will remain at LG, just as Martin remained at RG even when we needed tackle help.
Beebe will remain at C.
I think next year's RG will either be Hoffman, Richards, or Nathan Thomas.
RT could be Steele, but it won't surprise me if he is released due to his salary and play. Then the RT will likely be Richards or Thomas or a draft pick....or Edoga.

I think Bass will remain a backup guard.

Let's not forget that we have played Washington, NYG, Cinncy, and Carolina, all of whom have been bad at stopping the run. Keep that in mind before anointing guys like Hoffman or Bass. I think we will all have a much better idea about these guys after watching them vs Tampa Bay and Philly.

I think the scheme is the first big issue, we havent been dominant running the ball since Callahan left, and Colombo was let go. I think Steele shouldnt have given that extension, and shouldnt have been rushed back. I like Bass and Hoffman as players with potential that should get more opportunity. I think Zack Martin is a class act and HOF but its maybe time to move on. I caught hell two years ago when I told friends, I dont know if I would have given him that extension bc now if he retires we will have a cap hit. He has a lot of miles and they eventually catch up. I love Tyler Smith at LT or LG. I love Beebe as a player but I would be willing to see if he can be a better OG than C in the offseason and if not he did very solid as a rookie at C. I think we negated OL in in the draft for the last two years and its catching up to us but if Guyton can have a solid off season, Steele can stay healthy and improve in pass pro, Beebe comes back then you have Hoffman, Bass and maybe add some more youth and you have Smith its not a bad group overall. I know I have been reading comments about recent success but playing against teams that arent good against the run shows progression but I cant put alot of weight into that. So apart of me being in favor of new coaching across the board is maybe we can get some better scheme and concepts to help the OL as well.

My thoughts are that Hoffman is part of the best five and should start next season.

Also Tyler Smith is the best LT on the roster. Put him there and suck it up and pay him early. Maybe actually get a discount in return this time. Certainly a multi billionaire has learned that watching “leaves fall” does nothing more than drive up the price.

Trading Steele isn’t out of the question if they aren’t too busy booking stayjum events.

i agree with this line up. we need depth. we get injured allot.

Steele can't and never has been a good pass blocker. He has cement feet. Martin appears to be done. The other folks are fair to good. Good however isn't great. We were really good about 5 years ago.

PS. Coaching matters. I don't think we have the best O line coach or the best strength coaches. Our guys get beat by both speed and strength. We used to have a top 5 line when Red Beard was here. Now we at our best are middle of the pack.

The OL has looked better without Zack because he wasn’t healthy. Having a healthy body on the field as opposed to an injured one has improved us upfront.

Much better than the 1st half of the season. It's nice to see some rushing yards too.
meh. they are playing against some inept defenses in Giants, Panthers and Cinci....they better look good against them.
lets see how they do the next three games

The interior is perfectly fine and should continue to develop and get better. Not sure how anyone could feel good about our tackles and their ability to pass protect though. In a perfect world they find a new young LT and have Smith-
Beebe-Hoffman-Guyton starting…of course that’s always easier said than done to find a franchise LT. Especially when there’s holes everywhere else on the roster as well.
