How bout Doug Free on Felix's TD

Hopefully the staff will use that play as an example of the type of teamwork and effort they'll need consistently, starting next week if they are to keep their season alive. Great team play and awesome individual play. GO COWBOYS!!!

One of my favorite plays. He is playing well. I don't think you take him out at this point. Columbo has to get into playing shape, and could throw off the line's continuity.

I'm not sure LA was ever downfield that far blocking for Emmitt. Very impressive!

thats one of my boys, they called him the freak in college, because he was so fast, on some passing plays he was downfield blocking ahead of wrs.

I think we have found a real good OT, hopefully he works alittle harder in offseason and gets alittle stronger, etc

and we need to draft one more good offensive linemen,

because as you all know flozell is 35 i think and columbo is 31

I'm thinking that Columbo is Wally Pipp here, you can't bench this kid. He's playing splendidly, to be that far down field to escort Felix into the endzone was incredible; I thought it was a wide receiver at first. Really impressed by this guy.

You could not be any more off.

When Colombo is healthy he will be starting again.

DC what i would do when columbo comes back, i would let columbo come in for critical 3rd down and one, use him some on downs like that when you want to run; or i would put columbo as the outside TE blocking in run blocking on certain plays till columbo gets his feet back underneath him

we'll see about that. It might be one of those cases where they say they don't want to rush him back. If they take him out of the lineup I'll have lost all confidence in this coaching staff.

That's why I want the Cowboys to draft Jared Veldheer if his reported numbers are accurate.

6-8/321, 4.90 40, 32 reps of 225.

That is of course provided he can play and not be another Mandarich/Galloway.

Man, i couldn't believe that. An olineman 20 yards downfield before Felix could even get there. How is that possible?

The way he came all the way across from the right to the left to make that play is awsome.

That was a great play. Free is getting better every weak.
Not sure Columbo should be inserted into this O lineup.
Although Columbo is better in short yardage.

I would bring Colombo in for short yardage only.

Yeah, that might also help in play action, because the opponent will definitely think run...

Very athletic and heads up play. That was a head turner and made that play. Otherwise it was just another good run by Felix.

And no. Play one or the other unless you're going to run an unbalanced line on a play or two.

Yeah.. Interesting to see how Phillips/Garrett will handle it.

How about a hand for the guy that has just fit in and done his job quite nicely in typical low key Olineman fashion?

That is all.

Well... Here's a nice article for your perusal. ;)

ARLINGTON — Deon Anderson watched as Felix Jones dashed toward the end zone in the third quarter of the Cowboys’ 24-0 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday and couldn’t believe his eyes.

Anderson, the Cowboys fullback, looked at a scene straight out of “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” as the hyper-quick Jones followed a 6-6, 313-pound tackle into the end zone.

Doug Free, who was starting his sixth game in place of the injured Marc Columbo, had romped 49 yards down the field, had somehow gotten in front of Jones and had covered Eagles’ defensive back Sheldon Brown to the point where it was hard to see him. <----- BEAST

Brown understands how the sun feels during a total eclipse.

It was a remarkable hustle play by Free, a fourth-round pick from Northern Illinois in 2007, and one that was the buzz of the locker room after the game.

“I thought that Doug had either slimmed down or he’s been working on his 40 [yard dash] time,” Anderson said. “But that’s what you expect of Doug because he hustles every day in practice so whatever he does in practice carries over to the game. It was unexpected but expected at the same time.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was watching from his suite and he was gushing about the play after the game.

“You saw big No. 68 [Free],” Jones said. “That is really notable. To see that 68 out in front of Felix Jones down there clearing him in for a touchdown. There’s a young player that we didn’t know when we started if he was going to evolve into a player. I was concerned because we hadn’t seen him. He gets his opportunity, he steps up and is really playing well for us.

Tight end Jason Witten said the play epitomized what the Cowboys have attempted to build this season.

“That just kind of paints a picture for what this team’s about,” Witten said. “He’s a backup, doesn’t play much, comes in there and he’s on the opposite side of the field, running down and making a touchdown block for Felix.

“Those are the plays. You don’t see it on sports center, but those are the plays that you gotta make. It was an unbelievable play by Doug and that’s the way our team’s played all year.”
