How comfortable are you with our QB position

Are you expecting a vet to get cut? Only vet out there now is Hoyer and Fitz and Hoyer is talking to the Jets today.

There always are. Any team that drafts a QB and plans to keep him often has to release someone.

I don't think most teams are comfortable with their backup starting too many games.
I'd like to have a better one though.
The irony is that as much as we complained last year, the backups that we had were probably about average vs the rest of the league. Grass is always green thing.

Just pointing out that the draft really doesn't help in year one on backups. It does help you groom someone though, if there's a big injury like Dallas had last year.

Having watched every game last year, I'm real concerned. That was a lot of losing. Plus, we haven't done anything big in free agency, so Jerry needs to make a splash in the draft. I'm afraid drafting a QB who might just disappear to the bench for a few years if Tony stays healthy won't be his first priority because it won't create a lot of buzz, not that Jerry is inclined to draft quarterbacks anyway. He did say finding a backup QB was a priority, so I'm sure he'll get one, but probably in the later rounds or someone like Hoyer. The thing is, we need to be looking for Tony's replacement, IMO, and that means one of the top QB's in the draft, and this year we are picking high enough to do that. We know how this team plays without Tony, so we need to do something about it. I doubt if we will, though.

Two questions I have specifically about the backup QB position.

A. How comfortable are you with Kellen Moore as the backup? Not at all!!

B. If we don't draft a QB in round 1 or 2, should a vet QB be brought in and who? Given our current team and coaches, I seriously doubt there's a current QB vet out there that can run this offense effectively enough to be competitive. It is what it is so if we lose Romo (for the season early) better to go 4-12 with the chance of picking a franchise QB next year, than 8-8 with a "Hoyer" and drafting late. Just sayin.

Not comfortable at all. We are one hit away from another 4-12 season. The Cowboys have to start preparing for the future. We should use a high draft pick on a quarterback. I wanted Goff but it seems like he is going to the Rams. I wouldn't give up next years first for Wentz but if he fell to us at 4 I would take him. If we go defense with the first pick I would either use our pick at 34 on a QB or try to trade back into the first and get Lynch.

Not sure it matters who the back up is. If Romo goes down it is over. This staff has proven that Romo covers their warts. It was on FULL display last year. The inability of this staff also scare me in developing a young QB even if we end up with Wentz or Goff.

I'm not comfortable with any of the QB's on the roster right now. That includes Romo. We should have been seriously looking at QB's after Romo's back issues and first broken collar bone. We need to be proactive, not reactive. There's been 2 wasted seasons now where the FO got caught with their pants down after Romo got injured. That's the difference between teams like Dallas and the Pats. The Pats are rumored to be looking at another QB this year too. Whether you like Belichick or not, the guy always seems to be prepared.....

I agree 100% about the staff

please answer the 2 questions before you go on your rants.

A. Moore as the primary backup..........LOL..........not comfortable at all with that.

B. Would probably be good idea to bring in a vet if we are going with day 3 developmental crap at QB......Market is pretty slim right now, Hoyer I guess?

I really don't care about the backup position that much.

Who has a good backup? Who? Almost nobody, that's who.

Tell me the name of the backup who would have rolled through Ryan, Brees, Brady, Wilson, and Eli in consecutive games last year without Dez Bryant?

There are 12 good quarterbacks in the world. The rest suck. Truth.

Denver lost their starting QB for half the season and still won the SuperBowl.

I guess they didn't get the memo that if the starting QB goes down, you should just pack it up for the season and try again next year.

Not comfortable at all with Moore he was winless as a starter last season and both games weren't close. He's yet to prove he can win a game. I feel certain we will draft a QB but for arguments sake if we didn't a guy like Hoyer or McCoy would be the best options.

Houston and Pittsburgh both lost starters throughout the year and made it to the playoffs.

You mean NFL teams actually win games with backup QBs?

Houston was 3rd in total defense. We all know how that goes regarding a QB--SB winners Dilfer and B Johnson as exhibits A and A1

But Pittsburgh pulling it off was pretty impressive. I know Big Ben only missed 5 games, but they won 3 of them

Yeah, having the league's top rated defense will get you the win in most or all of those games lost by 7 pts or less.

**Edit**Read the question wrong
1. I think with a training camp under his belt, and an even better run game this year, K. Moore can game manage a few wins. If he comes in for 3-4 games, I feel he could pull off at least one win there.

2. Fitzpatrick is a good backup QB, and I lobbied for him last year, but even I don't think he would be that effective here considering our offensive scheme seems wonky when any other QB but Romo runs it.

I'll put it this way. If romo gets hurt for any period of time we will be picking very high again next year

A) Very uncomfortable.
B) Yes, I'd bring in somebody who's started quite a bit in the league: Hoyer, Foles or one of the McCowns.
