How Did Joseph Randle Emerge as the Favorite for the Cowboys' Starting RB Job?
By Rivers McCown , NFL Analyst Jun 10, 2015

It's mid-June, we are about two-and-a-half months from the start of the NFL season. The Dallas Cowboys are coming off arguably their most successful season in this millennium, one which was kick-started by a powerful run game that was effective despite a high volume of attempts.

DeMarco Murray is gone, and all signs point to the Cowboys rolling with Joseph Randle, a third-year back out of Oklahoma State who was drafted in the fifth round. As he is replacing a running back who won the Offensive Player of the Year award, Randle had a lot of pressure on him even before he insinuated that Murray wasn't flawless last season...

You read far enough and you find the true reason for this article:

So should I draft Randle in fantasy football, then?

I would definitely take a flyer on him. Especially in leagues that carry an optional RB/WR slot. Pick up DMC late or as a FA and let him sit until you see how they use these RBs...

thats in FF of course.

Right now you have McFadden and Williams missing time, so that pretty much makes Randle the front runner at this point

I don't know, Randle played more to his scouting report in 2013 than he did last year. He actually looked faster than murray and much more elusive but his sampling size is very small.

Seems like he'll be the starter and McFadden the 3rd down back

3 short months away from the start of the season and that is the situation.

I still think they pick up someone to challenge these guys for a spot.

The team's been sort of telegraphing that they thought highly of Joseph Randle for a while now. This really shouldn't be a surprise to those of us who follow closely.

Now, the fact that we don't necessarily want that to be the case is another matter.

That article is what I call Clueless Buffoonery. He says maybe they will bring in Ray Rice.

That video was from 2013. Randle was good in Pass Pro in 2014 including the preseason where he got several opportunities.

Fair enough.

But the more I think about the stable of RBs we have..... I am really hoping Mcfadden has a year or two left and can stay healthy. And behind this line and out of Oakland may do him a world of good....I hope DMC steps up. Although Randle is a nice change of pace guy, I just don't think he can be the guy. a few carries here and there, give the other guys a breather, but I am rooting for DMC.

It seems like everyone has forgotten this nugget from Jerry last season when Murray was still on the roster

“We’ve got one that if he carried that ball 20 times a game, I think he would have outstanding numbers in the 100-yard up area. That is Joseph Randle,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “We’re really proud of his progress, what he’s doing. When he’s gotten the ball, he’s been impressive.

Jerry says a lot of things.

Who knows. Were going to find out soon enough. I dont think Randle holds up carrying the rock a significant amount of times, week in and week out. I do think he is strong backup type player and can help out the team in certain situations.

Yes, I would prefer that Randle not be #1. It's fine if he gets a lot of carries, but there is pressure that comes with being #1 that he might not be able to deal with.

I think the Cowboys are treating him like the #1 to see how he handles it and to get him to think in those terms.
