The ACC is near the same spot at the Big 10, Ga Tech beat Miss St (SEC# 3) and Georgia (SEC# 4) while Clemson lost to Georgia but beat South Carolina (SEC# 11). After that comes Louisville and Duke, who don't seem to matter very much.
Mississippi State is the #2 team in the SEC and Georgia Tech handled them quite easily. They also beat the Bulldogs in Athens. So the #2 team in the ACC proved they could compete with some of the best of the SEC.

I agree with you. But I think people make a valid point that the bottom-tier teams in the SEC are on par with the mid-tier teams in the other major conferences. Outside of the Pac 12 since there aren't enough common games, I think there's enough evidence to support this claim. However, you're right that the top-tier teams in the other conferences have put a hurting on the top-tier teams in the SEC. A few weeks ago, people were talking about putting Bama, Ole Miss and Miss St in the playoffs. And earlier in the season teams like LSU and Georgia were getting all the praise. Well, they all got destroyed. So the question is, what constitutes the best conference: one whose worst team can hang with your middle of the road team, or one whose best team doesn't stand a chance against your best team?

Are you serious here? I am not "picking and choosing". I am talking about the biggest bowl games including the playoffs.

The only person picking and choosing is the one who thinks we should all be impressed because Arkansas beat Texas.
I just don't know how to respond to this level of idiocy.

Yeah. Sure. OK, buddy. Alabama losing and Auburn losing and Ole Miss and Mississippi State getting spanked is indicative of exactly 0. Sure thing. But hey, Arkansas beat Texas so the SEC is the best!!! :lmao::lmao2::laugh::lmao::lmao2::laugh:
You're completely missing the point with Ark v. Texas. Yes, you are picking and choosing b/c you ignore the games that the conferences you support lost. When it comes to how good an entire conference is, Bama vs. Ohio State matters just as much as Ark vs. TX. Arizona losing to Boise State is just as important as Ole Miss losing to TCU. Saying the SEC isn't good and basing it on two weekends, is horribly shortsighted and ignores the entire body of work that those teams have during the season.

Stop it...!! :lmao::laugh:

You're killing me...!!!! :lmao2::lmao2::lmao2:

Be as condescending as you want lol

Fact is, when you're talking about conference depth and how good a conference is OVERALL, you can't look at just the top 2-3 teams. You want to do that b/c that's where there's a case against the SEC, but it's a point that has no legs in the long run. The #12 team in a conference beating the #5 team in a conference speaks to depth...#1 beating #1 simply doesnt.

You don't think Alabama was even a top 5 team?
really?

Great night for the Buckeyes last night, but still....

No, I don't.
So let's investigate a bit further.

What was Alabama's best win this year?
MissSt? Probably about 15th in the country in the final polls. They won that game by 5.
MissSt by the way had a best win of LSU or TAMU. They lost to Bama and Ole Miss.
I think Bama was probably a top 10 team. But not top 5. They beat Arkansas by 1 point and LSU in OT.
And if they had any other name but the same resume that's where they would have finished.
As is they are very likely to end up the top ranked 2 loss team. They continually get the benefit of the doubt.
That's why people scream SEC bias.

Bama had a young QB and he struggled at times.
They beat up some poor teams and got rolling but other weeks the offense was completely stagnant and this was the worse they've been in the trenches in 7 or 8 years at least.
They've got as couple future high picks there but not the 3 or 4 coming out they usually have.
And the best DBs are also young.
Outside rolling a TAMU team with a QB controversy boiling over they really didn't look much like a top 10 team a lot of weeks.

You lost me at " no I don't"
I assumed you were just exaggerating for emphasis.
They beat TCU 4 out 5 , IMO (and Ohio St maybe 3 of 5 )...in a one game scenario, anything can happen though, so who really knows.
That's what's wild about football. Unlike the NBA or MLB, you can lay an 2-3 eggs ina series and still be champs. In football, one bad or below average outing and it could over.

And what 2-loss team should be ranked higher than them. It comes down to just Baylor and Mich State, and I don't think you can really make a case for either of them over Bama.

So in another words you ignored the discussion and gave your opinion....
ummm, great.

Since you seemed to miss it what was Bama's best win? What defines them as a top 5 team?

As to opinions.. no I do not think they likely beat TCU. TCU is far better on both offense and defense IMHO.
Make fewer mistakes and create far more turnovers. Have multiple big play guys instead of just having Amari Cooper.
And had a more experienced QB with very similar skillsets.

All hypotheticals.
It's your right to have them.
At this point, I'm a bit weary of this topic.
I do think TCU is really good, but already said that pretty much all season.
I have several friend that went there. Good for them.

Next year should be fun.

Sweet job of continuing to ignore the very direct question.
Now you go on ignore.
I have zero time for people who have no desire to actually discuss points and instead want to be a sophist.

Jeez jt, what the heck is your problem?
Why all the hostility?
Good grief

There are few people in the country that watched Alabama the second half of the season and would not say they are top 5 team. Why do want a dissertation on it?
It's freaking transparent to me.
They are dominant on both lines and have good skill players all around and have one the best coaches in college.
Is that enough??!!!

if you don't agree, that is fine.

As a Bama grad it was obvious this year was a down year for the Tide. I didn't think they would be in the playoffs starting off. They won when they had to though & it helps to have a big name to fall on..

I thought they would roll OS but they didn't & so now Oregon must. :p

Yup this was as bad as they've been in a long time. --still really good.
It was pretty clearly a rebuilding year for them.
They still have a crazy amount of talent but a lot of it is 1st and 2nd year guys.
They didn't have the JUCO all-stars they usually do and of course all those underclassmen leaving 3 years a row catches up with you.

Just about everyone will have them top 5 pre-season and it would be hard to argue with that provided Kiffin returns to run that offense again.
The defense WILL be better just through experience.

We're a spoiled fan base for sure. It's just the culture there...number 2 is not good enough.

It was painfully obvious to me this was a down year.

I am still surprised they made the playoffs,

Here in the real world you don't get to suck at the top but have all your bottom teams win and get to say you're "a deep conference."
